Felix Hernandez vs. Matt Shoemaker

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Familiar face, new old bullpen, same King.

The Mariners will look to take their damned-Astros four-game skid to a halt today when they face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, which means that is still a ridiculously stupid name for a baseball franchise. If you haven't seen it, check out Jake's series preview here as well as our Q&A with Riley Breckenridge, who plays in a better band than the baseball team he is a fan of.

Chris Taylor is here and in the lineup, which means Brad Miller sits on the bench. Lloyd's been very clear in his comments that Miller isn't a primary culprit for this slide and that's true, though Miller's slippy slappy arm of late probably didn't earn him any "keep me in coach" favors. It's presumed that they'll both rotate through shortstop, with Miller maybe getting some time in the outfield, possibly for Dustin Ackley, who is sporting the best contact rate of his career combined with the worst line drive rate.

Justin Ruggiano takes over in center field for Austin Jackson, which means the Mariners are forced to do what no team should ever want to do, and that's start Ruggiano versus right-handed pitching. Matt Shoemaker has been terrible so far this year, and Felix is still Felix, so the recap is going to be pretty damn dark and angry if the M's manage to botch this one, as if it could get any more curt than yesterday's.

Sunshine and lollipops. Do the damn thing.
