WAKE UP

Now is when we dance
Now is when we dance
John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

A harsh, unforgiving morning brings a game to view over coffee, two day old pizza and regret. Why does my arm hurt? Where are my glasses? Oh Friday night, the Benjamin Buttoner of all who partake in your rich carnival of sin. You have done it again you foul beast.

James Paxton and Mark Buehrle will trade turns atop the mound today as the Mariners attempt to actually build some momentum and take a series. The jerky and janky way this team has spent the first 1/4 of the season starting and stopping has been annoying. Suck or be amazing. There is no death worse than mediocrity.

Lloyd apparently didn't like something one of the beat writers wrote so he's rolling with Rickie Weeks/Willie Bloomquist 1-2, assuring that a sea of mindless Twitter hags will pound out there frustration at the beat writers for some reason. If you do this, do not do this. Beat writing is a hard job and you are making it worse. Be nice to your local beat writers.

I specifically chose the picture for the game thread for 2 reasons: 1) If you squint you can almost pretend Chris Taylor is Dustin Ackley back in his McDreamy days before he let himself go and 2) This turf. My GOD! How a team like the Blue Jays, the only team in the entire country of Canada, playing in one of its largest cities (Pop. 25,000), and owned by an exceedingly wealthy corporation can roll with that playing surface is just baffling.

There is no question it is better than Astroturf. Baseball was not designed to be played on concrete and Astroturf was nothing more than concrete painted green and cruelly barbed to inflict maximum pain on every slide. But Astroturf never pretended to be grass. It was a wholly other thing. This field turf in Toronto exists in some kind of baseball Uncanny Valley. It is synthetic cork, Coke Zero, Starbucks coffee and any other almost real but not quite real thing you can think of. It is bad.

Go get 'em Dadgut.
