The Mariners made their first round of cuts this morning, sending 11 players down to Minor League camp as we march ever forward to opening day. There was little to be surprised about in the news, but of note is that Danny Hultzen, fresh off his first professional inning since Chone Figgins was still dancing around in your head, will be spending the rest of spring in the Rainiers camp. It doesn't mean he is going to end up there this season (Lloyd has said he will be starting his year "somewhere warm," which, as we all know, isn't Tacoma in April), but I was kind of hoping to get at least one more look at the guy again. But, for once, it's October that matters--not prospects.
As for the game, we've got a 1:05 PM first pitch from Roenis Elias, who will be facing this up-and-coming kid in the Dodgers system named something like Colton Kershid, I think. Should be an interesting matchup. And now that the shortstop battle has been decided by default, Lloyd is getting right back on his feet by throwing Ketel Marte out in the nine hole. Last game of the week before a day off, and as we like to say, goms.
