In which baseball-y things happened.

Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

Hey everybody! Let's take a look at what's going on around baseball:

  • Manny Acta's hiring as the Mariners' new third base coach has been made official.
  • Chris Ianetta may or may not be close to a deal with the M's.
  • Larry Stone of The Seattle Times thinks Ken Griffey Jr. deserves to be a unanimous Hall of Famer.
  • For those of you that didn't catch it, Tony Blengino provides his take on the Miller-Karns deal (which has some interesting information on how Miller was viewed on draft day).
  • Major League Baseball announced its 2015 Gold Glove award recipients.
  • Israel is seeking guidance from the United States to help improve its professional baseball league.
  • Jeff Sullivan wonders how important it is for a team to have a truly elite reliever.
  • August Fagerstrom compiled a list of the top 10 weakest positions on American League teams from 2015 (with no mention of the Mariners!)
  • Lance Lynn will miss all of 2016 due to Tommy John surgery.
  • Former Nationals manager Matt Williams has returned to coaching as the third base coach of the Diamondbacks.
  • The Twins and Dbacks made a minor trade.
  • The Padres have acquired infielder Jose Pirela from the Yankees.
  • A.J. Pierzynski has signed a one-year pact with the Braves.
  • The Twins and Yankees also made a swap, trading Aaron Hicks for John Ryan Murphy.
  • Dave Cameron likes the Hicks trade from a Yankees perspective.
  • Many GM's appear to be copying the mould of the Kansas City Royals.
  • Authorities are still trying to figure out what exactly happened to Tommy Hanson.
