Alright everyone this is it. The last week of the regular season. The Mariners, like the master narrators they are, have spent the past 2 weeks beating us down. They have set the stage. They're the underdogs, 1.5 games back with 7 to play.
The Mariners are Eric Liddell. They are not graceful, precise runners. They are not beautiful, honed, practiced creatures designed solely to gobble up ground as quickly as possible. They are raw, untamed, almost stupid in the primacy of their efforts. They have nothing but 200 meters and four swift cleats stamping ahead of them. It's time to drop some Vangelis, throw their heads back and kick as hard and fast as they possibly can.
On the mound the Mariners are throwing Lord Dadgut, who's pitched as well as anyone in September. Pitching for the Blue Jays is (Pitcher: Left-handed) which means almost assuredly that the game will come down to the Mariners' ability to keep Toronto's offense from scoring more than 2 runs.
Despite the left handed pitcher Lloyd McClendon is NOT playing Justin Smoak (yaaaaaaay). He is also NOT playing Michael Saunders, despite him being the only thing worth a damn about yesterday's game. I am so very, very convinced that Michael Saunders is going to someday be a great baseball player and that he is going to do it for another team. That will make me angry.
But that's for tomorrow. Today we're tired. You're tired. I'm tired. The Mariners are pretty obviously tired. Who gives a damn?! Sleep next week. Sleep all damn Winter. Win today.
Win damn you! All hail Dadgut!
