King Felix vs Alex Wood

Scott Cunningham

Happy Felix Day!

Tonight, the Mariners start off their nine game homestand by playing Atlanta. The M's and the Braves find themselves in strikingly similar positions coming in to tonight's game. Both squads have been scuffling mightily as of late, with each team having won just six games since the All-Star break. Additionally, both teams are just two games back in their respective wild card races. Although this series is short, it is an important series for both teams.

This is the second longest homestand of the season for the Mariners and they desperately need to start taking advantage of some home-cookin'. Their record at Safeco sits at an uninspiring 26-31, the worst home record of any team currently in playoff contention. Winning the majority of the games during this homestand is almost certainly necessary if the Mariners hope to remain a contender for the second wild card spot (especially when playing Toronto early next week), but first the M's must take on Alex Wood and the Braves. Fortunately, the Mariners start things off in the best way possible by sending Felix to the mound tonight.

Go M's!
