Hisashi Iwakuma vs Allen Webster

Rich Gagnon

Well this morning the M's will be taking on the Red Sox for the last time in 2014, unless some miracle happens and the Red Sox win every single one of their games until October--and by extension, watch the Orioles, Yankees, Blue Jays, and Rays also lose just about every single one of their games at the same time. That was a pointless little sentence to type but the reality it conveys is a fun one to think about. Ahhhhhhh yes, that old familiar embrace of schadenfreude.

Today it's what seems to be the M's statistical A Team--Morrison at first with Kendrys swinging the bat, Chris Taylor at short, and Denorfia in over Endy Chavez. The gang will be facing Allen Webster, pitching in only his second year for a blown-up Red Sox youth movement trying to fill grit and spit void left by the departing Jon Lester and John Lackey. Webster really only has four pitches--five if you count a sinking fastball--with only 57 total innings of major league experience. It's early, so I'll stop talking and let you drink your coffee and watch the Mariners whap the Sox one last time before coming home to beat up on the Rangers. Ahhhhh yes, that old familiar embrace of schadenfreude.

Go M's
