7/20: Open Game Thread

Chris Young leads the Mariners in the rubber match against Tyler Skaggs and the Angels.

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

So far, the Mariners have played nothing but extra-inning games in the second half. For the sake of entertainment and intensity, I hope that pattern continues. For the sake of the players' health, I hope that pattern does not continue. The extra-innings games have certainly taken a toll on the players and as such the lineup leaves something to be desired.

One could also argue that the pitching machup leaves something to be desired as Chris Young has compiled an ERA of 4.04 on the road this season. Young will face an Angels lineup that doesn't look nearly as watered-down as the M's one does.

On the flip side, Tyler Skaggs has performed extremely poorly at home this year where he has an ERA of 5.55 (as opposed to 3.69 on the road). The M's will send out every right-handed bat in their arsenal to the plate in today's game in order to get favorable matchups against the lefty.

Fangraphs gives the Mariners a 23.2% chance of winning this game but who cares about the haters? We've learned to never question the great and powerful Chris Young, and maybe he'll be able to do his magic thing and give the Mariners a series win to kick off the "second half."
