Roenis Elias is many things. He is a young southpaw who found success in Double-A Jackson last season, retiring 121 batters and maintaining a 3.18 ERA over 22 starts and 130 innings. He is a minor league hopeful and dark horse candidate for the starting rotation, though today will be his first opportunity to start a spring training game for the Mariners. Like many others, he is a defector from his home country, Cuba. He arrived in the United States in 2010 to make a name for himself in professional baseball.
One thing Roenis Elias is not is former power pitcher Pedro Martinez. I see what you're doing, Baseball Press. Don't think you can get away with it.
