Hisashi Iwakuma vs. Adam Wainwright

Steven Bisig-US PRESSWIRE

The Mariners are in St. Louis, and subsequently get to face one of the game's best pitchers. I've noticed this year that Wainwright has significantly slowed his pace on the mound, and now takes 23.5 seconds between pitches, while previously operating in the 20 range in 2010, his previous best year. By WAR, this is Wainwright's best season, fully recovered from Tommy John surgery that kept him out all of 2011. Improved control has been a huge reason for Wainwright's success, as his walk rate has plummeted.

Strangely enough, Iwakuma is the one with the lower ERA (2.97), and he'll take the mound for the M's. There isn't much to cling to when watching Mariners games, but there's no major football to speak of tonight, so this is a good one to watch.

The M's are running out a fun lineup today. Also, Iwakuma hitting!
