2013 MLB All Star Game: Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma selected

USA TODAY Sports

It's almost time for the All-Star game, and the votes are in. This year, both Felix Hernandez and Hisashi Iwakuma have been chosen by players, managers, and coaches as two of the five starting pitchers elected to the American League All-Star team.

Felix Hernandez was a given, but considering Hisashi Iwakuma's recent struggles (5.54 ERA in his last four starts), there was some question as to whether he'd get in. While he leads the American League in ERA (2.60) among qualified pitchers, he's still a relative newcomer to the scene. Iwakuma finished fifth in the player voting to get the final spot among starters. Felix Hernandez finished second, trailing just Max Scherzer. Here's how the votes among players came down, courtesy of Michael Baron.

Max Scherzer 351
Felix Hernandez 253
Clay Buchholz 234
Yu Darvish 222
Hisashi Iwakuma 147

This is Felix's fourth all-star appearance in the last five years. Interestingly enough, the one year he wasn't an All-Star was the year he went on the win the Cy Young.

There had been some speculation that Raul Ibanez might be up for one of those final fan votes considering his age and current tear, but for some weird reason all five of the vote-in candidates are relief pitchers. One of them is Steve Delabar.

In the National League, Yasiel Puig joins the final five, so there's no doubt he'll get in, even though he's only played 31 games. Fans want him and they'll get him.

The rest of the rosters are as follows. Who got snubbed? Who's undeserving? How stupid is the voting process anyways? Debate and vent away.
