Trade deadline day! It had been relatively quiet around the league until last night, when a big three way deal went down involving Jake Peavy and Jose Iglesias, as well as Alberto Callaspo getting swapped for Grant Green. We're in the home stretch now, so chitter chatter away.
Here's our final batch of current rumors:
- Mike Morse is "very available," according to Joel Sherman. This shouldn't really come as a surprise, but it'll be quite a feat if the Mariners end up getting something even decent for him given his injury struggles this year and late entry into the trade market. Morse still makes more sense as a post-deadline waiver trade, although I'm sure the Mariners would far prefer multiple suitors today.
- The Orioles keep getting linked to Oliver Perez, and while they've also been linked to Joe Saunders, last night's start probably didn't help his cause. Perez is the player I most expect to be moved at some point today, as most teams will be involved in the bidding for one of the market's best and most affordable relief targets.
- The Brendan Ryan market is dwindling, says Greg Johns. With the A's and Tigers both trading for middle infielders, the number of teams interested has been cut. The Tigers were one of the more obvious targets with Jhonny Peralta's impending suspension likely coming down this week.
