Nine hits and three walks doesn't usually equal seven runs, but consider this some payback for past transgressions in the unlucky. Oh... hey there, Gambler's Fallacy, uhhhh... what's up? Ok, fine! It is not payback for past bad luck. Yeesh. Buzzkill.

P = number of pitches seen, RB = reached base, nBB = unintentional walks and hit by pitches, sw = swinging strikeouts, cnt =contact
John Jaso may have struck out twice but he also walked and singled importantly and from looking at his swings (5) compared to pitches seen (20), you can get a definite sense of Jaso's disciplined, patient approach at the plate. He'd fit well in near the top of the line up, to maybe set a tone for others to follow. If they paid attention.
Carlos Peguero swung at 10 of the 13 pitches he saw. He made contact twice.

Fifteen missed bats for Jason Vargas is almost as many as Carlos Peguero will accrue in two games. Vargas wasn't super sharp in the strike zone, but he had the Athletics fishing, so he had less need to be. The final tally of just one walk and six strikeouts is evidence of that.
