Mariners Get Stuff From Dodgers

The Mariners swapped Brandon League to the Dodgers for Logan Bawcom and Leon Landry. League, a free agent to be, was not expected to bring back much in a trade. Rumors surrounded him and the Giants lately, but instead he finds himself on the Giants' long time and current divisional rival the Dodgers.

Relief pitcher Logan Bawcom (right-handed, 23.7 years old) was taken by the Dodgers in the 17th round of the 2010 draft. People picked that far usually lack in a draft profile that we can fall back on for scouting information, so I'll have to wait for others to chime in. Numbers-wise, we don't have much information with just about 100 innings to his professional dataset so far. What he has is average walk and ground ball rates but well above average strikeout rates, though they have slowed down in his first exposure to Double-A.

Leon Landry (left-handed, 22.9 years old) is the more interesting of the two. A former third-round pick, Landry is a mostly center fielder, sometimes left fielder who had a fine enough season in A-ball last year, but has improved in High-A this year. Landry shows solid contact skills and perhaps developing power with an ISO of .230 (.224 after park adjustment) this season. He fits in well with the type of prospects that Zduriencik has gone after in his more minor trades. Someday, one has to workout, right?
