Justin Smoak is out with a minor muscle strain, and John Jaso is sitting because Eric Wedge wanted to get Munenori Kawasaki a start. Whatever. The important thing is, Jose Lopez! Lopez batted twice against the Mariners last season, but he didn't start. Tonight he's starting, which is more meaningful somehow. A real actual shame he's not facing Felix Hernandez. I'll settle for this, though. Not that it's up to me.
