With the #27 pick, the Mariners select...

Nick Franklin. Niiiice. Switch hitting shortstop who should stick at that position in the pros. Unfortunately, he's a long way from the major leagues as a high schooler, but he's exactly the sort of player that the Mariners ought to be bringing into the organisation. This is a slight overdraft, but Franklin fits so well with the club it's not a huge problem. Although he had 10 homers last year, he's not expected to be much in the way of a power threat in the bigs once he switches to a wood bat, but his swing is level and he sprays line drives all over the field. He doesn't have Mier's glove, but nobody does, and he should be average+ as a shortstop in the majors. Good pick, and it might free us up to overdraft at  #51.
