So it's not quite Felix Day, but as temporary replacements go, I can't imagine a cooler one. RRS' average fastball so far this year has clocked in at 89.0mph. If he can hover around 87-88 for the duration of his three- or four-inning assignment tonight while still getting a handful of swinging strikes, then that'll be an encouraging sign going forward should the team give any thought to making him a starter. Even if his true talent out of the rotation is only a high-4's tRA, getting that for close to the league minimum would make him a hell of a value, so I'm all for trying to stretch him out whenever possible. It's the prudent thing to do. I mean, you have to find out, right? Right?
