You were probably hoping for a big recap with the Mariners off tonight, but with High Desert having the day off and Tacoma's game postponed, there isn't much baseball to reference, plus one of the two games wasn't close. So click the jump if you want further details.
Or do what I've spent the last few hours doing and scour YouTube for random videos until you land on random crap like the opening credits for One Day At A Time. Talk about a blast from the past: half of you weren't even born when this show was on the air! Yeah, I don't feel old. Anyway, if you're looking for someone to blame for the 'serious' episodes on shows like Fresh Prince and Saved By The Bell, blame this show, because they made a living out of the whole dramedy schtick. How it didn't fall flat until 9 seasons later (and that's with Mackenzie Phillips cokeheading herself off the show twice) is beyond me.
On to the wrap-up!
A: South Bend 5, Wisconsin 4
Robert Harmon: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 walks, K, hit batter
Michael Pineda: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER (HR), 3 K
Jacob Wild: one out, 2 H, 1 ER, walk
Ryan Moorer: 1 IP
Calvin Beamon: 1-4, double, R, RBI, K
Alex Liddi: 2-4, R, RBI, K
Joe Dunigan: 1-4, double, R, K
Juan Diaz: 1-4, RBI, K
Blake Ochoa: 2-4, double, R, K
Robert Harmon went back to the gas pipe and the Silverhawks poured on 3 early runs. The T-Rats scrapped back with a run in the 3rd and another in the 5th, after Harmon took a mercifully early exit in the 4th.
Groundballs: 7
Flyballs: 3
Line Drives: 3
Walks: 2 (plus 1 hit batter)
Strikeouts: 1
But the Silver Hawks added a run when Taylor Harbin led off the bottom 5th with a solo shot to left off Michael Pineda. It would ultimately be the only run Pineda allowed as he worked into the 7th, holding South Bend to a 4-2 lead. The T-Rats did get two runs in the top 8th as Alex Liddi scored on a Chad Beck balk and Juan Diaz singled in Joe Dunigan to TIE THE BALLGAME.
But Jacob Wild, used mostly in long relief this season, did not fare well in a late tie ballgame, as he gave up a single, walk, got beat on a bunt attempt that loaded the bases, and left only for Ramon Ramirez to sac fly the go ahead run home for a lead they kept for good.
A+: The Mavs got a much needed day off. They are headed to Lake Elsinore.
AA: Birmingham 6, West Tenn 1
Justin Thomas: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 4 walks, 4 K
Marwin Vega: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 walks
Michael Saunders: 2-3
Marshall Hubbard: 2-4
rest of DIAMOND JAXX lineup: 4-19, R, 5 walks, 5 K
This game was over quickly. There's only one other item from this game that could possibly interest you, and that's Justin Thomas' BIP data.
Groundballs: 10 (plus 1 bunt)
Flyballs: 4
Line Drives: 3
Pop Ups: 2
Walks: 4
Strikeouts: 4
... well, that, and Marwin Vega turning in a solid relief outing, but it was mop up work.
AAA: Tacoma's game with Colorado Springs was postponed due to 'wet grounds'. They play an early getaway game with the Sky Sox tomorrow at 11:30 am. I'm guessing they won't make this game up until the next visit from the Sky Sox, if they make it up at all.
