Mariners Last in Rule 4 Draft Expenditure

Baseball America

As it stands right now, the Mariners are dead last in the MLB on dollars spent in the 2008 draft class, at $2,545,000. Yes, the Ms haven't signed their first round pick, but even if they were to, you're looking at an additional $1.5M to $2M, which seems like a lot, but would still leave the Ms between 28th and 24th in spending. They were 17th in 2007.

Average expenditure during the draft was a little over $6.2 million, up from just over $5 million in 2007, a whopping 23% increase.
