I don't know if you could've scripted a more satisfying conclusion to what was, overall, a hell of a year. Between Felix looking every bit like the best young pitcher in baseball to AJ flashing his talent to Burke hitting the home run that we've been awaiting for so long to JJ slamming the door, this game featured so many of the things that we looked forward to throughout the summer. For a team that doesn't make the playoffs, it'd be difficult to end on any sweeter a note. I always want my favorite teams to compete for the championship, but at the end of the day sports are meant to serve as an entertaining diversion, and for six months this team was the lone constant in what was, for me, a time of significant change. So thank you, Mariners, for once again being an enjoyable and calming influence. Even when it felt like you weren't.
And as always, thanks to every single one of you guys for making this place what it is. Even you, Coach. There are a lot of intelligent communities out there, just as there are also a lot of hilarious communities, dedicated communities, and beer-drinking communities, but none of them manage to blend all the traits together quite like you guys do, and I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your snark, analysis, and overall participation. What started as a place to get together and talk Mariner baseball has - as evidenced by all the various LL get-togethers - turned into a place to get together and hang out with friends, in both the virtual and legitimate senses. I've never seen a place so tightly-knit. Thank you. This is and always will be my favorite sports bar.
