8/19 Minor League Wrap-Up

As promised, here is a wrap-up for tonight's games... at least all the ones whose results we know of at this time.  The Rookie clubs tend to post their results the day after.  No word on whether I'll add the results to the appropriate recap after the fact, or just include them on the recap I work on next.  Depends on how much time's on my hands after work.

Also, as with past night-of wrap-ups... listed stats may not be current, only current as of before that particular game.  Given the existing sample sizes, they are still reliable barometers overall, only sans the performances of each current game.

On to the wrap-up!  Without the rookie clubs, it'll be pretty brief.  Good news and bad awaits!

Dominican update to come tomorrow, as scores from the DSL usually have a day's delay.  I think they're okay after the deluge.

Arizona:  No updates until tomorrow either, though they don't have a hurricane to blame.

a:  Everett 6, Eugene 5
EVE:  25-34... EUG:  31-28

Doug Salinas:  4 IP, 9 H, 5 ER (HR), walk, 4 K
Nick Hill:  5 IP, 2 H, 10 K (!!!)
Edilio Colina:  3-4, R, K (.261/.320/.362)
Halman:  1-5, 2 run HR, 2 K (.306/.375/.565)
Kalian Sams:  1-4, 2 run HR (.212/.313/.365)
Jermaine Brock:  2-4, R, K (.216/.286/.269)

A tale of two contests, as Doug Salinas got bombed and only finished the 4th, ceding to Nick Hill down 5-0... and Nick Hill turned into Johan Freaking Santana, striking out 10 over the final 5 without allowing a run, as the Aquasox roared back to take the lead 6-5 in the 8th, and the Military Man held on for a surprising long relief victory.

A:  They played two in Appleton.  Sickness saps my excitement.

Game 1:  Cedar Rapids 5, Wisconsin 4, 7 innings

Cha Seung Baek:  3.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER (HR), 6 K, balk
Rollie Gibson:  1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, K
Steven Richard:  2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, walk, 2 K
Calvin Beamon:  3-4, solo HR, 2 RBI, SB
Reed Eastley:  1-4, double
Alex Liddi:  1-3, double, R, K (.234/.303/.384)
James McOwen:  2-2, double, R, 2 RBI, walk (.269/.284/.308)

Cha Cha has had better days, and this start could've gone a lot better.  Also, losing this game was Steven Richard's fault. But it's encouraging to see Cha pitching competitively on a mound to ANYONE after weeks of hearing 'he's not close to being back.'

Game 2:  Cedar Rapids 3, Wisconsin 1, 7 innings
WIS:  22-32... CED:  29-26

Ricky Orta:  5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER (2 HR), 2 walks, 7 K, 2 wild pitches
Family Warrior Harold Williams:  1 IP, walk
Justin Souza:  1 IP, 1 H, K
Calvin Beamon:  2-3, double, R, K, SB (.235/.325/.301)
Reed Eastley:  1-3, RBI, K (.282/.391/.420)
Leury Bonilla:  2-3 (.248/.272/.348)

Ricky Orta got some K's but was a bit more beatable, and that sadly wasn't enough for this contest, as the hits just didn't translate into more than a run.

A+:  Lancaster 8, High Desert 5
Mavs:  19-38... Jethawks:  35-22

Juan Zapata:  5.1 IP, 7 H, 7 ER (2 HR), 2 walks, 6 K
Roman Martinez:  2.2 IP, 2 H, (1 R) 0 ER, 2 K, wild pitch
Casey Craig:  1-4, double, 3 RBI (.324/.414/.492)
Jesus Guzman:  1-4, double (.293/.365/.530)
Adam Moore:  2-4, R, 2 K (.311/.375/.565)
Travis Scott:  1-2, 2 R, 2 walks, K (.281/.379/.497)
AN-DY HAR-GROVE:  0-2, sac fly RBI, walk, K (.187/.285/.318)
Jeff Dominguez:  2-4, R (.256/.308/.350)

Juan Zapata is quickly succumbing to the crappy pitching disorder that has plagued every High Desert starter this season.  The Jethawks built a 7-3 lead and the Mavs never really threatened.

AA:  The DIAMOND JAXX had Sunday off.  They are on their way to lovely Chattanooga for a series with the Lookouts (29-26).  LOOK OUT!

AAA:  Tacoma 3, Sacremento 2
TAC:  60-69... SAC:  74-55

Jorge Campillo:  7 IP, 4 H, 3 walks, 7 K
The Aircraft Carrier:  2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER (HR), walk, K
Nick Green:  2-3, double, R, walk (.300/.345/.541)
Jeremy Reed:  2-2, 2 run HR, 2 walks (.291/.344/.432)
Rob Johnson:  2-3, double, solo HR (.261/.327/.359)

Jorge Campillo rung the River Cats up over 7 shutout innings, and Tacoma built a 3-0 lead that even River Cat runs in the 8th and 9th couldn't overcome.  ¡CAMPILLO GANA!
