That was easily one of the unlikeliest shutouts I've ever seen. In theory it helped keep the Mariners' pursuit of a .500 final record alive, but with three more games against Oakland early next week, it would be wise to adjust your expectations a little south. Like, say, "I'd be happy to finish with more than 74 wins." Gil Meche'll try to take us there tomorrow night, a 5:35pm PDT ballgame against a team that really shouldn't be called the "defending World Champions" anymore since their defense officially ended a couple days ago.
