Minor League Wrap-Up: 5/4/06

New, comments

Tacoma and Colorado Springs were suspended due to fog. According to the Rainiers website, homeplate was not visible from the outfield. That's some thick soup. Tacoma was leading 1-0 in the top of the third when play was called and the game will be completed on the next Colorado Springs road trip in June.

San Antonio got by Arkansas, 9-6. Another solid start for Yorman Bazardo, one San Antonio pitcher who's gotten off to a nice start this season. Bazardo went five innings surrendering just one run on five hits while walking a pair and striking out four. While Nate Mateo was shaky in the ninth (gave up three runs), the Mission offense built a nice cushion with a five-run sixth. Jon Nelson and Jesus Guzman both homered and UnNomar had two doubles to lead the charge.

Notables:

Yorman Bazardo: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.
Little Garciaparra: 3-4, 2 2B, 1 RBI. (.318/.398/.412. Not much power, but is he FINALLY tapping into the gene pool?)
Jon Nelson: 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI.
Jesus Guzman: 3-4, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 RBI.
Wladimir Balentien: 1-5.
Justin Ruchti: 2-5, 1 RBI.

Lake Elsinore shut out Inland Empire, 3-0. One day after a 23 hit, 19 run explosion from the 66'ers, they go and put a big goose egg up on the board. Granted, while they still knocked the ball around a bit (nine singles), not much was going right for IE in this one. The long ball bit Ivan Blanco as other than a two-run shot off the bat of Chase Headley, he was effective.

Notables:

Ivan Blanco: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 1 HR.
Brent Johnson: 2-4.
Yung Chi Chen: 1-4.
Ron Prettyman: 2-4, 1 BB. (His second walk in 102 ABs. Yeech.)
Josh Freakin' Womack: 1-4.

Cedar Rapids beat Wisconsin, 6-2. Justin Thomas didn't have his best stuff against the Kernels in this one as he lasted six innings but gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits, two homers, walked one and fanned seven. The Rattlers only got five hits out of the offense two of which went to J.B Tucker, two more to Casey Craig and a single to Michael Saunders.

Notables:

Justin Thomas: 6.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 2 HR.
Casey Craig: 2-4, 1 2B.
Michael Saunders: 1-4.
J.B. Tucker: 2-4, 1 2B.
Eddy Hernandez: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
