It's late, I know. Sorry.
Nashville topped Tacoma, 7-4. Bobby Livingston is still trying to find that edge that made him so effective at the beginning of the season as he had, by his standards, a subpar outing in the Music City. Livingston went five innings giving up four runs on eight hits including two homers and a couple walks. Kevin Appier took over in relief and showed us all why he's in an AAA uniform -- enough said. The Dobber had a nice day at the plate with three hits and Todd Sears homered and drove in three.
Notables:
Bobby Livingston: 5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 2 HR.
Adam Jones: 1-4.
Chris Snelling: 0-3, 1 BB.
Greg Dobbs: 3-4.
T.J. Bohn: 2-4, 1 RBI.
Todd Sears: 2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI.
San Antonio outlasted Corpus Christi, 6-5 (14). After a so-so start from Brandon Moorhead and up and down relief, Nate Mateo probably felt pretty bad giving up a run in the top of the 14th. What he didn't know of course is that Wlad! was itching to knock one out in the bottom half. Balentien drove one over the left field wall and scored Bryan LaHair to hand the Missions and Mateo the win. This was Wlad's second homer of the day as he now has nine on the season. Sebastien Boucher had a much needed good day as he got aboard five times and Bryan LaHair had three baseknocks.
Notables:
Brandon Moorhead: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K.
Sebastien Boucher: 3-5, 2 BB.
Bryan LaHair: 3-5.
Wladimir Balentien: 3-5, 1 2B, 2 HR, 5 RBI.
Oswaldo Navarro: 0-3, 3 BB.
Inland Empire got by Rancho Cucamonga, 4-2. Give it up for Shawn Nottingham. It's been a rough start to the season for him and he finally had that one start that might help him turn the corner. Nottingham went six innings giving up two runs on five hits while walking three and striking out six. He earned his first win, and boy, did he need it. Brent Johnson, Matt Tuiasosopo, Omar Falcon and Willie Bloomquist Lite all went multi-hit on the day to lead the 66ers offense.
Notables:
Shawn Nottingham: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K.
Brent Johnson: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 BB, 2 RBI.
Matt Tuiasosopo: 2-3, 1 RBI.
Reed Eastley: 0-1, 3 BB.
Marshall Hubbard: 1-4, 1 2B.
Omar Falcon: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Josh Freakin' Womack: 2-4.
Burlington bowled over Wisconsin, 4-1. Jose Escalona, minus a bit of wildness, was on fire in this one as he went six innings giving up only a single hit while walking five and fanning eight. Escalona is probably not far from being moved to that volatile IE rotation. Still, Escalona's performance was wasted as Edgar Guaramato couldn't nail it down with the T-Rats leading 1-0 in the ninth. This was Guaramato third blown save of the season, and his name is awfully similar to Guardado. Huh.
Notables:
Jose Escalona: 6.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 5 BB, 8 K.
Jeff Dominguez: 3-4.
Casey Craig: 1-4.
Eddy Hernandez: 0-4, 4 K.
Michael Saunders: 0-2, 2 BB.
On the docket:
Tacoma: Nashville blew them out 10-1.
San Antonio: Leading 8-3 in the fifth.
Inland Empire: IE is leading 4-3 in the third.
Wisconsin: Wisconsin beat Burlington 4-3.
All this will be recapped tonight.
