Minor League Wrap-Up: 4/30/06

Tacoma finished up their game from Saturday night, won it 4-2 and then dropped the nightcap 4-3 (8). Game one started with Nageotte and Moseley going an inning on Saturday, but neither returned to throw on Sunday. Instead we saw Cesar Jimenez and Jered Weaver go at it. Jimenez was effective but Weaver was straight dominating. The 23-year-old managed to send twelve Rainiers down on strikes in just six innings of work while allowing one earned run. Luckily for the Rainiers, Salt Lake decided to bring in someone who isn't Jered Weaver in the eighth and Tacoma pounced by scoring four and stealing the victory. Mike Morse, Scott Youngbauer and Asdrubal Cabrera all doubled to help pave the way.

Notables:

Cesar Jimenez: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K.
Adam Jones: 1-4, 1 RBI.
Mike Morse: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Asdrubal Cabrera: 1-2, 1 2B, 1 BB.
Rob Johnson: 1-3, 1 RBI.
Scott Youngbauer: 1-3, 1 2B.

Game two saw Cha Seung Baek take the hill and throw another good if not fantastic game. Baek went six innings giving up a couple runs on three hits while walking one and striking out four. Renee Cortez blew the save by giving up two in the top of the seventh and Looper finished the collapse by allowing a solo homer in the 8th. Three Rainiers went multi-hit while the team as a whole piled up eleven singles.

Notables:

Cha Seung Baek: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.
Shin-soo Choo: 1-4.
The Dobber: 2-4.
Todd Sears: 2-4.
Adam Jones: 2-4, 1 RBI.

San Antonio fell to Springfield, 9-7. Another lousy start for Brandon Moorhead as he and really that entire staff still hasn't found it's groove. Moorhead lasted only three innings and allowed seven runs on seven hits while walking three and fanning four. The Missions came all the way back to tie it in the seventh thanks in large part from a massive output from Jeff Clement. Clement had a baseknock at each of his at-bats, three of them going from extra bases. Despite this, Nathanel Mateo handed the Cards two runs and the game in the eighth.

Notables:

Brandon Moorhead: 3.0 IP, 7 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.
Jason Bourgeois: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 BB.
Little Garciaparra: 2-4, 2 RBI.
Jeff Clement: 5-5, 3 2B, 3 RBI.
Bryan LaHair: 2-4, 2 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Jesus Guzman: 2-5, 1 RBI.
Oswaldo Navarro: 3-5, 1 2B.

Visalia edged Inland Empire, 3-2. Shawn Nottingham went five and a third giving up couple earned runs on seven hits, three walks and four strikeouts in the losing effort. Despite eleven IE hits, the 66ers couldn't get much across the plate. Marshall Hubbard, Matt Tuiasosopo and Brent Johnson all went multi-hit but it wasn't enough.

Notables:

Shawn Nottingham: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.
Josh Freakin' Womack: 1-4.
Marshall Hubbard: 2-3, 1 BB.
Chris Colton: 1-5, 1 RBI.
Matt Tuiasosopo: 2-4.
Reed Eastley: 1-4, 1 2B.
Brent Johnson: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB.
