4/29: Minor League Wrap-Up

New, comment

Tacoma was washed out. Doubleheader scheduled for...today.

San Antonio held on to beat Arkansas, 9-7. This was a wild one - after the Missions scored seven runs in the bottom of the second to take an 8-0 lead (LaHair homer, Ruchti homer, Nelson RBI single, etc.), Arkansas rallied for six in the fourth to cut the deficit to two. At that point it became a matter of hanging on, and with the tying run at the plate in the ninth in the person of Brandon Wood, Craig James picked up the strikeout to lock down the win and earn the save. Jason Mackintosh was the starter and had his day come to an end after the forgettable fourth, but he was picked up by an offense that put 17 men on base. Special kudos to Bryan Lahair, who had three hits, including a pair of homers. Notables:

Mackintosh: 4 IP, 3 H, 6 R (5 ER), 4 BB, 4 K, 2 HBP, 1 HR
LaHair: 3-4, 2 HR
Ruchti: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 BB
Navarro: 1-2, 1 BB
Garciaparra: 0-2, 2 BB
Nelson: 2-4
Clement: 1-5, 1 HR

Inland Empire tripled up on Visalia, 9-3. Ivan Blanco was spotted a 3-0 lead in the first and lasted five innings in the start, with the 66ers blowing it open with a four-run seventh inning (keyed by a two-run Marshall Hubbard double). Matt Tuiasosopo and Ron Prettyman led the way with three hits apiece, while Yung-chi Chen and Luis Oliveros each chipped in with two of their own. Hubbard also drove in three runs. Notables:

Blanco: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Tuiasosopo: 3-4
Prettyman: 3-4
Chen: 2-4, 1 3B
Oliveros: 2-4
Hubbard: 1-4, 1 2B

Wisconsin lost to West Michigan in a rain-shortened affair, 2-0. It only went five innings, but while Paul Fagan was effective on the hill, the T'Rats only picked up one hit, a single by Mike Saunders. Brian Schweiger drew a walk, which is neat. Notables:

Fagan: 5 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 4 K
Saunders: 1-2
Schweiger: 0-1, 1 BB
Dominguez: 0-2
Valbuena: 0-2
