Fresno had no trouble with Tacoma, 7-2. Blame Benny Looper's kid again. After a decent spot start from Rich Dorman who was filling in for Clint Nageotte, Aaron Looper found his way to the mound in the fifth and was hammered for five runs on nine hits in three innings including giving up two bombs. With the exception of a Guillermo Quiroz hitting clinic, there wasn't much offensive action from the Rainiers.
Notables:
Rich Dorman: 4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 0 K.
Aaron Looper: Bad.
Shin-soo Choo: 0-3, 1 BB.
T.J. Bohn: 1-3, 1 BB.
Mike Morse: 0-4, 4 K.
Guillermo Quiroz: 3-4, 1 2B.
Midland squeezed by San Antonio, 2-1. Another day, another loss for the Missions. Despite being a bit wild, Yorman Bazardo continues to build on a nice start to the season as he went six and a third giving up a run on four hits while walking four and fanning just one. Ben Fritz was death on the bats as he sent down eight Missions swinging. Bryan LaHair hit a solo shot in the fourth in what must have been the high point for the offense all day. San Antonio will be going for their tenth straight loss tonight in Midland.
Notables:
Yorman Bazardo: 6.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 1 K.
Bryan LaHair: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Wladimir Balentien: 1-3.
Little Garciaparra: 1-3.
Gary Harris: 1-3, 1 2B.
Bakersfield swept the doubleheader from Inland Empire 9-2 and 15-4. Game one was just a completion from the suspended game on Friday. Lookout Landing's favorite pariah (oxymoron?) Cibney Bello started the game and was smoked for three runs on four hits in just three innings before turning it over to an equally miserable bullpen. The 66ers didn't get a whole lot done at the dish with the exception of a nice night from Trevor Heid who laced three baseknocks including a homer and a double.
Notables:
Cibney Bello: 3.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 K.
Chris Colton: 1-3, 1 BB.
Ron Prettyman: 2-4.
Trevor Heid: 3-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI.
Game two was even more horror to the eyes as Justin Jordan was positively LIT UP going only three and two-thirds giving up nine runs (eight earned) on ten hits (two bombs) while walking three and getting no one to whiff. Jon Lockwood was next up to take some punishment and did so going two and a third and allowing five more runs to plate. Ugly. Reed Eastley and Yung Chi Chen both swatted homers to help ease the pain.
Notables:
Justin Jordan: 3.2 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 2 HR.
Josh Freakin' Womack: 1-4.
Yung Chi Chen: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI.
Reed Eastley: 1-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI.
Marshall Hubbard: 1-4, 1 2B.
South Bend edged Wisconsin, 5-4. Justin Thomas wasn't anything special, but that final line shouldn't fool you as Rollie Gibson came in and let two inherited runners score. The game completely slipped away in the eighth when Edgar Guaramato served up a two-out two-run triple that sealed the deal. The Rattlers got a majority of their hitting from the lower half of the order as Robert Hudson and Jeff Dominguez both went multi-hit.
Notables:
Justin Thomas: 5.1 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K.
Chao Kuan Wu: 1-4, 1 2B.
Alex Gary: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Robert Hudson: 3-4, 1 RBI.
Jeff Dominguez: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
