Minor League Wrap-Up: 4/20/06

Sacramento buried Tacoma, 7-3. That's right, folks -- Cha Seung Baek is back! And coming with him is the same tired, nearly useless arm. Baek showed us all again why he should be sitting in some cubicle somewhere instead of pitching AAA ball as he went just four innings giving up three runs on nine hits while walking two and fanning three. His K/BB ratio is now a cool 1:1. I'm completely ignoring the fact that Rich Dorman was WORSE in this game, but like I said...I'm ignoring that. As for the sticks, there wasn't much going on. T.J. Bohn hit second homer of the season but most of the offense came out flat.

Notables:

Cha Seung Baek: 4.0 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K.
T.J. Bohn: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI.
Hunter Brown: 1-4, 1 2B.
Adam Jones: 1-2, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Jose Morban: 1-3, 1 3B.

San Antonio and Frisco got washed out. No makeup date as of yet.

Inland Empire edged Stockton, 2-1 (12). What has gotten into Mark Lowe? After taking over for a wild Ivan Blanco in the fourth, Lowe went four shutout innings while one-hitting Stockton and striking out eight. Lowe has now struck out 26 batters in just 16 innings putting his K/9 near 15. Whoa. Needless to say, the rest of the pitching (O'Flaherty, Kahn and Trolia) were excellent as well at keeping the Ports at bay (snort). A couple of doubles from Yung Chi Chen and Mike Wilson won it in the top of the 12th after spending all day whiffing at pitches as fifteen 66ers went down swinging.

Notables:

Ivan Blanco: 3.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 1 K.
Mark Lowe: 4.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K.
Josh Freakin' Womack: 2-5, 2 2B.
Brent Johnson: 1-5.
Mike Wilson: 3-5, 1 2B.
Yung Chi Chen: 1-5, 1 GW 2B.
Ron Prettyman: 2-5, 1 2B.

Wisconsin smashed Southwest Michigan, 14-3. A pretty solid start for Marwin Vega as he went six innings giving up two runs on three hits while walking two and striking out six. The offense, which only had ten hits in a fourteen run showing, collected an astounding twelve walks. That's some ridiculous patience, especially for a High-A squad.

Notables:

Marwin Vega: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K.
Luis Valbuena: 2-3, 1 2B, 3 BB, 2 RBI.
Casey Craig: 1-5, 1 3B, 1 BB, 2 RBI.
Michael Saunders: 1-2, 2 BB, 1 RBI.
J.B. Tucker: 2-3, 1 2B, 2 BB, 2 RBI.
Alex Gary: 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI.
