Hooray! Rumors!

Straight from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

A source close to Seattle's front office confirmed last night that the Mariners have persisted in their months-long effort to acquire outfielder Craig Wilson and that the return being discussed is Joel Pineiro, who could fulfill the Pirates' wish for an experienced right-handed starter.

Put as much stock in that idea as you want, but what it comes down to is that as fond as I am of Wilson's bat, adding to the team's surplus of 1B/DH types who suck at defense while subtracting from the starting rotation is pretty much the exact opposite of what Bavasi needs to do. Unless this would somehow trigger a chain of other deals to clean up the mess, I don't see how it would make one lick of sense. Peculiar.
