Minor League Wrap-Up: 8/5/05

Oklahoma got by Tacoma, 7-3. Cha Seung Baek shouldn't get all the blame here. The Rainiers defense was horrible as they committed three errors (Brown, Lopez, Leone) and handed the Zephyrs five unearned runs on the night. What you CAN blame him for is giving up three homeruns in only 4.2 inning, that's inexcusable. Anyone remember this guy? Yeah, he's still around and he's still shutting down AAA teams by accident every couple weeks. Believe it or not, Ramontiago had the best night as he smacked two hits including a homer.

Notables:

Cha Seung Baek: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 3 HR.
Ramon Santiago: 2-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI.
Greg Dobbs: 2-4.
Justin Leone: 1-4.
Jose Lopez: 1-4, 1 RBI.
Ryan Christianson: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB.
Shin-soo Choo: 1-4, 1 RBI.

San Antonio destroyed Corpus Christi, 13-1. So, this is the prize in the Ron Villone deal. I'll freakin' take it. Yorman Bazardo was downright nasty in his Mariner-system debut as he went seven shutout inning giving up only three hits and a walk while striking out five. He wasn't really required to pitch that well as the Mission offense went nutty in just about every inning giving Bazardo a comfortable cushion. Everyone in the lineup had a hit, five of whom went multi-hit. The Missions hit four bombs (Guzman, Jones, Nelson, Castro) in what was a fireworks display of offense.

Notables:

Yorman Bazardo: 7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.
Jamie Bubela: 1-3, 2 BB, 1 RBI.
Jesus Guzman: 2-5, 1 3B, 1 HR, 3 RBI.
T.J. Bohn: 2-5, 1 RBI.
Adam Jones: 1-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI.
Jon Nelson: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI.
Ismael Castro: 2-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI.

Inland Empire came back to edge Rancho Cucamonga, 7-6. Headed into the ninth, the 66'ers were down three and things looked bleak. Then, a miracle:

Pitcher Change: Bob Zimmermann replaces Allen BuckleyJr.
Matt Rogelstad flies out to right fielder Ben Johnson.
Erick Monzon flies out to center fielder Jason Sugden.
Justin Ruchti doubles (6) on a line drive to right fielder Ben Johnson.
Samuel Bradford Jr. walks.
Sebastien Boucher walks. Justin Ruchti to 3rd. Samuel Bradford Jr. to 2nd.
Michael Garciaparra walks. Justin Ruchti scores. Samuel Bradford Jr. to 3rd. Sebastien Boucher to 2nd.
Carlos Arroyo singles on a line drive to right fielder Ben Johnson. Samuel Bradford Jr. scores. Sebastien Boucher scores. Michael Garciaparra to 2nd.
Pitcher Change: Richard Thompson replaces Bob Zimmermann.
Bryan Lahair strikes out swinging.

Add that to the Justin Ruchti double in the 10th to win it, and you got yourselves a helluva ballgame. Brandon Moorhead originally got the start and was just fine for seven innings giving up two runs on six hits while walking no one and fanning seven. Little Garciaparra continues his terror as he collected another three hits and Justin Ruchti doubled twice picking up a single RBI...but it was a big one.

Notables:

Brandon Moorhead: 7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 1 HR.
Sebastien Boucher: 1-3, 2 BB.
Little Garciaparra: 3-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Carlos Arroyo: 1-4, 3 RBI.
Bryan Lahair: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Justin Ruchti: 2-5, 2 2B, 1 RBI.

South Bend beat Wisconsin, 10-7. When you see Aaron Jensen's line below, you'll be like, "What? 5.2?". That's what I said, at least. Jensen managed to stay out there for 5.2 excruciating innings giving up ten runs on twelve hits while walking two and striking out three. Jon Lockwood FINALLY came in to settle things down and managed to keep the Silver Hawks off the board for the last 3.1 innings. The T-Rats did managed ten hits, three of them coming from Chris Colton and two more from Brent Johnson.

Notables:

Aaron Jensen: 5.2 IP, 12, H, 10 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HR.
Brent Johnson: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Chris Colton: 3-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI.
Mike Wilson: 1-3, 2 BB, 1 RBI.
Matt Tuiasosopo: 0-4.
Jeff Clement: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI. (.118/.250/.118 in 17 AB's. He'll figure it out.)
Omar Falcon: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 3 RBI.
Oswaldo Navarro: 1-4, 1 2B.

Yakima slipped by Everett, 3-2. Roman Martinez got the hook after the fourth as he gave up two runs on four hits, walked three and struck out two. Lance Beus also went a couple innings giving up a run and David Asher finished things out by going the final two frames. None of it mattered, though. The Aquasox offense was dazzled by Adam Howard and the rest of the Bears bullpen. Casey Craig and Mike Saunders are the only two who had a good night with the stick.

Notables:

Roman Martinez: 4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K.
Trevor Heid: 1-4, 1 2B.
Casey Craig: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Ron Prettyman: 0-4.
Luis Valbuena: 1-4.
Mike Saunders: 2-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI.
