Minor League Wrap-Up: 7/21/05

On the run, so it's compact today.

Tacoma edged Tucson, 3-2. Bobby Livingston was solid in his second start for the Rainiers as he went the minimum giving up a run on three hits. Felix Hernandez got some work in and gave up a run (not earned) over three innings while striking out four. Apparently, a line drive came close to knocking Felix's block off, but he ended up being all right. Aaron Rifkin had two hits and a walk to lead the Rainier offense.

Notables:

Bobby Livingston: 5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR.
Felix Hernandez: 3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K.
Jamal Strong: 1-5, 1 3B, 1 RBI.
Greg Dobbs: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Justin Leone: 1-3, 1 BB.
Aaron Rikin: 2-3, 1 2B, 1 BB.
Shin-soo Choo: 1-3, 1 BB.

Frisco outlasted San Antonio, 3-2 (13). After San Antonio scored two runs in the fifth to tie it, no one crossed the plate until Jason Hart did in the bottom of the 13th to win it. Jon Huber kept the Missions in the game by going seven innings giving up only two runs, but the offense just never came.

Notables:

Jon Huber: 7.0 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 K.
T.J. Bohn: 3-6, 1 2B.
Jesse Hoorelbeke: 2-5.
Jon Nelson: 1-5.
Adam Jones: 1-5.
Rene Rivera: 1-5, 1 3B.

Rancho Cucamonga held off Inland Empire, 1-0. Classic pitchers duel. It was Chad Fillinger vs. young phenom Jered Weaver and they pitched essentially the same exact game:

Weaver: 7.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 10 K.
Fillinger: 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K.

That's some damn good pitching. However, Troy Cate blew the good performance in the eighth as he allowed Matt Brown to score after a leadoff double. Obviously, there was no 66'er offense to speak of.

Notables:

Chad Fillinger: See above.
The Offense: 2-28, 1 2B, 3 BB, 15 K.

Wisconsin toppled Clinton, 8-2. Aaron Jensen was effective, Eric Hurley wasn't. It's a nice combination that almost always leads to the W. Jensen went six innings giving up a run on four hits while walking three and striking out four. Both Yung Chi Chen and Mike Wilson had multi-hit nights to lead the Timber Rattlers.

Notables:

Aaron Jensen: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.
Brent Johnson: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Yung Chi Chen: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Brandon Green: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Mike Wilson: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI.
Thomas Hubbard: 1-4.
Matt Tuiasosopo: 0-2, 1 BB.

Salem-Keizer shut out Everett, 4-0. Eric Carter was a bit wild and got hit well in his four innings of work as he gave up three runs on eight hits while walking three, striking out only one and getting hammered for two bombs. The Everett offense managed six hits all evening, all of them were singles and no one drew a free pass. Yawn.

Notables:

Eric Carter: 4.0 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 2 HR.
Reed Eastley: 1-4.
Luis Valbuena: 1-4.
Jeff Flaig: 1-4.
Ron Prettyman: 1-4.
Daniel Santin: 1-3.
