Bellamy Road Fails to Win Kentucky Derby

When it rains, it pours for Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. For those who follow horse racing, Steinbrenner's horse, Bellamy Road, entered today's Kentucky Derby as the early favorite amongst odds makers and race fans alike. After a quick start that had him in the top three in the first quarter mile, Bellamy Road fell back to the fifth position as they entered the first turn, made a charge along the 3/4 mile straight away, only to fade into the final stretch, failing to place or show. Giacomo, a horse with a 50-1 shot, kept the pace the entire way and made a late charge to win his first Kentucky Derby. Could this is be foreshadowing for the remainder of the Yankees 2005 season or just dumb luck for those extremely happy Giacomo ticket holders?
