Tacoma shutout Colorado Springs, 2-0. Rich Dorman finally had a great start as he went five shutout innings while giving up only a single hit. Masao Kida continued to pitch quite a bit better than his horrible start to the season and George Sherill tossed a perfect ninth to pick up his third save of the season. Giving up only two hits to the Sky Sox probably couldn't have come on a better night as the Rainiers were relatively flaccid with the bat. The Rainiers only had five basehits all night but three were for extra bases. Chris Snelling, recent Mariner call-up Wiki Gonzalez and Mike Morse all doubled.
Notables:
Rich Dorman: 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K.
Shin-soo Choo: 0-4.
Chris Snelling: 1-4, 1 2B.
Abraham Nunez: 1-3, 1 RBI.
Ryan Christianson: 0-3.
Wiki Gonzalez: 1-1, 1 2B. (was a sub for Terveen)
Mike Morse: 2-2, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Springfield edged San Antonio, 5-4. Jeff Harris got knocked around a bit as he went 5.2 innings and gave up four runs on five hits. What's interesting is that he struck out eleven in the effort, so it was either hit it hard (3 XBH, 2 HR) or strike out. Cool policy, Jeff. Too bad it isn't more effective. T.J Bohn continues to hit the ball well as he had a multi-hit night, along with Jamie Bubela.
Notables:
Jeff Harris: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 11 K, 2 HR.
Yuniesky Betancourt: 0-4.
T.J. Bohn: 2-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI.
Jon Nelson: 0-4, 4 K.
Ismael Castro: 0-4.
Jamie Bubela: 2-4, 1 2B.
Inland Empire put away Lancaster late, 5-4. Ryan Feierabend took the hill for Inland Empire and was all right, as he kept the 66'ers in the game by going five innings and giving up a couple runs on six hits. In the ninth it looked as if this one was headed for extras, as two were down and Juan Gonzalez stepped to the plate. Gonzalez picked a hell of the night to hit is first homerun in...well, a long long time, as he blasted a solo jack to right to win it.
Notables:
Ryan Feierabend: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K.
Juan Gonzalez: 2-5, 1 3B, 1 walk-off HR, 1 RBI.
Casey Craig: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Wladimir Balentien: 0-4.
Bryan Lahair: 1-4, 1 RBI.
Adam Jones: 2-4, 1 2B.
Hyung Cho: 2-4.
Southwest Michigan disposed of Wisconsin, 4-3. Another night, another unpredictable Mark Lowe. It seems as if he's either on, or he's completely off. Tonight it was the latter as he gave up four runs on five hits in six innings while striking out three. An Omar Falcon home run and Asdrubal Cabera's three hits were about the only thing worth watching on the offensive side.
Notables:
Mark Lowe: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K.
Josh Womack: 1-4.
Yung Chi Chen: 1-4.
Asdrubal Cabrera: 3-4, 1 2B. (Jeff's note: Yay!)
Omar Falcon: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI.
