Minor League Wrap-Up: 5/21/05

Tacoma beat Nashville, 6-3. Tacoma got off to a quick start as they rattled off five runs in the first thanks in large part to a Hunter Brown double that drove in two. Cha Seung Baek had his second post-injury start and wasn't too terrible as he went 5.2 innings giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five. In a what seems to be another sick twist to his career, Chris Snelling was hit by a pitch twice in the game. He was hit in the first and didn't have a problem, but in the 7th he took one of his right wrist and apparently was in a lot of pain. Snelling left the game and will reportedly get X-rays of the wrist. Lookout Landing will undoubtedly keep a close eye on the situation.

Notables:

Cha Seung Baek: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K.
Jamal Strong: 1-5.
Chris Snelling: 0-2, 2 HBP. 12-game hitting streak ends.
Ryan Christianson: 1-2, 2 BB, 1 RBI.
Abraham Nunez: 2-3, 2 RBI.
Aaron Rifkin: 2-3, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Hunter Brown: 1-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI.

San Antonio smashed Corpus Christi, 9-3. The white Mark McLemore had trouble keeping the Missions at bay as he issued several free passes that San Antonio took advantage of. San Antonio's starter, Bobby Livingston, had another effective start as he went seven innings giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out three. Yuniesky Betancourt had a nice night at the dish going 2-5 with a triple and a homer (.262/.284/.362. Still pretty piss-poor). Four other Missions including T.J. Bohn, Jon Nelson, Jesse Hoorelbeke and Eriberto Menchaca all put together multi-hit efforts.

Notables:

Bobby Livingston: 7.0 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR.
Gary Harris: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Yuniesky Betancourt: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI.
T.J. Bohn: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI.
Jon Nelson: 2-5, 1 3B.
Jesus Guzman: 0-4, 1 BB.
Jesse Hoorelbeke: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI.
Eriberto Menchaca: 2-4.

Inland Empire obliterated High Desert, 14-3. The 66'er offense went nuts. Check out the starting lineup:

Michael Nesbit: 1-6.
Matt Rogelstad: 2-6, 1 RBI.
Adam Jones: 3-6, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI.
Bryan Lahair: 1-6.
Wladimir Balentien: 4-4, 1 3B, 1 HR, 3 RBI.
Carlos Arroyo: 2-5, 1 RBI.
Chris Collins: 3-5, 1 RBI.
B.J. Garbe: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Eric Blakeley: 4-5, 2 2B, 1 3B, 4 RBI.

Dominance. Pure, utter dominance.

Brandon Moorhead took the mound for IE, but doesn't it really matter that he had a pretty good outing?

Notables:

Brandon Moorhead: 6.0 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K.
Aaron "Thanks Dad" Looper: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K.
Greg Wear: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K.
Offense: See above.

Clinton skated by Wisconsin, 4-2. Tough luck for Aaron Jensen who pitched well enough for a win in this one as he went seven innings giving up a pair of runs on four hits while fanning five. The Timber Rattler offense just couldn't get much going against Eric Hurley and didn't even collect a hit off of Kevin Altman who went the final four innings for the win.

Notables:

Aaron Jensen: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.
Josh Womack: 1-2, 2 BB.
Asdrubal Cabrera: 0-4.
Yung Chi Chen: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Oswaldo Navarro: 0-4.
