Minor League Wrap-Up: 5/19/05

Nashville outlasted Tacoma in a soggy marathon, 9-5 (14). At 3:30pm it looked like this game was going to be washed out. At about 7pm it was delayed, and finally at 10:25pm it was over after 14 long, wet innings. Tacoma saw six pitchers get work in this one as Andrew Lorraine didn't last long going only three innings giving up four hits and four runs (three earned) while walking three and fanning two. The next eleven innings saw performances from Tim Rall, Jared Thomas, George Sherrill, Masao Kida and finally the back-breaking outing by Chris Buglovsky. Buglovsky entered the 14th inning and did more than just blow the tie:

Chris Barnwell doubles (2) on a fly ball to left fielder Shin-Soo Choo.
Julio Mosquera singles on a ground ball to third baseman Hunter Brown. Chris Barnwell to 3rd.
Steve Scarborough walks. Julio Mosquera to 2nd.
Dave Krynzel strikes out swinging.
Rickie Weeks triples (7) on a sharp fly ball to center fielder Jamal Strong. Chris Barnwell scores. Julio Mosquera scores. Steve Scarborough scores.
Prince Fielder doubles (6) on a fly ball to right fielder Chris Snelling. Rickie Weeks scores.
Kevin Orie singles on a line drive to left fielder Shin-Soo Choo. Prince Fielder to 3rd.
Brad Nelson called out on strikes.
#Corey Hart grounds out, shortstop Mike Morse to first baseman Aaron Rifkin.

C'mon, Bug.

Offensively, Jamal Strong, Chris Snelling, Jose Lopez and Mike Morse all were strong with multi-hit nights.

Andrew Lorraine: 3.0 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 HR.
Jamal Strong: 3-5, 2 BB, 1 RBI.
Shin-soo Choo: 1-6, 1 BB.
Chris Snelling: 3-6, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Jose Lopez: 2-7, 2 2B, 2 RBI.
Mike Morse: 2-7, 1 2B, 1 3B.

San Antonio downed Corpus Christi, 6-4. Ryan Rowland-Smith wasn't real sharp as he went the minimum and gave up four runs on seven hits. Renee Cortez on the other hand was downright kickass. Cortez went two innings and struck out five of the seven batters he faced. Jesus Guzman was single-handedly sparked the offense with a four hit performance capped by a homerun. Luis Oliveros, Yuniesky Betancourt and Jamie Bubela also chipped in with two hits each.

Ryan Rowland-Smith: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 HR.
Renee Cortez: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 K.
Yuniesky Betancourt: 2-5.
T.J. Bohn: 0-3, 1 BB.
Jamie Bubela: 2-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Jesus Guzman: 4-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 3 RBI.
Luis Oliveros: 2-4, 1 RBI.

High Desert blanked Inland Empire, 7-0. Dusty Hughes was downright nasty against the 66'ers as he allowed only two hits over seven innings. Aaron Trolia wasn't Hughes-like as he went five innings giving up five runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out two. B.J. Garbe collected two meaningless singles and Bryan Lahair doubled to grab IE's only XBH all night.

Aaron Trolia: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 HR.
Matt Rogelstad: 0-4.
Adam Jones: 1-4.
Bryan Lahair: 1-4, 1 2B.
Wladimir Balentien: 0-4, 3 K.
B.J. Garbe: 2-4.

Wisconsin trumped Clinton, 3-1. Mumba Rivera was fantastic as he went seven strong innings giving up only one run on six scattered hit. Chad Fillinger pitched the final two innings to pick up his second save of 2005. The offense was pretty quiet all night, but took advantage of three Clinton errors as none of the T-Rats runs were earned. Asdrubal Cabrera and Thomas Hubbard both had multi-hit nights and Josh Womack smacked the only other Wisconsin hit.

Mumba Rivera: 7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K.
Yung Chi Chen: 0-4.
Asdrubal Cabrera: 2-4.
