Albuquerque got by Tacoma, 5-2. The big scare came in the second inning when Drew Niles lined sharply back to the pitcher and hit Felix Hernandez in the foot. Trainers, Dan Rohn and Rafael Chaves felt that taking him out was the best thing to do. Luckily, it doesn't sound like Hernandez sustained anything more than a shallow bruise. There were no X-rays taken and he was allegedly seen in the dugout throughout the game. Other than a sore foot maybe, looks like the Mariners dodged a huge bullet. As for the game, well, it sucked. Albuquerque put up a five-spot in the 2nd after Hernandez left and the Rainiers couldn't ever recover. Jose Lopez produced both runs himself with two solo homeruns.
Notables:
Felix Hernandez: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. (You can thank Chris Buglovsky for most of this ugly line)
Jamal Strong: 1-4.
Shin-soo Choo: 1-2, 2 BB.
Chris Snelling: 1-4.
Mike Morse: 0-3.
Jose Lopez: 2-4, 2 HR, 2 RBI.
Greg Jacobs: 2-4.
Frisco knocked out San Antonio, 11-7. Juan Sandoval was allowed to pitch for five excruciating innings (12 H, 8 ER) before he finally got the hook. Philip Wilson took over and was nearly as bad as Sandoval. Unfortunately, a pretty solid offensive effort was completely wasted as the Mission batters teed off on Matt Lorenzo for six innings. Everyone except Ismael Castro (.225/.242/.295, batting 9th now) collected a hit and Yuniesky Betancourt and Jesus Guzman homered to lead the charge.
Notables:
Juan Sandoval: 5.0 IP, 12 H, 8 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 HR.
Gary Harris: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Yuniesky Betancourt: 2-5, 1 2B, 1 HR, 1 RBI.
T.J. Bohn: 1-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Nate Espy: 1-4, 1 3B, 1 BB.
Jesus Guzman: 2-5, 1 HR, 2 RBI.
Inland Empire beat High Desert, 5-3. Shawn Nottingham was effectively wild as he went five Seleish innings giving up only a single run on six hits and four walks. Michael Steele gave everyone a scare in the ninth as he allowed two to cross the plate narrowing the gap to 5-3, but he hunkered down to close it out. Bryan Lahair smacked three hits including two doubles and Wladimir Balentien also had a multi-hit game including a homer.
Notables:
Shawn Nottingham: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K.
Matt Rogelstad: 1-4, 1 2B.
Adam Jones: 1-4, 1 2B.
Bryan Lahair: 3-4, 2 2B, 2 RBI.
Wladimir Balentien: 2-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI.
Wisconsin destroyed Lansing, 17-8. This is exactly what the T-Rats need to do every time Casey Abrams takes the hill (he quietly sucked). Five Rattler batters went multi-hit including Thomas Hubbard who had the game of his life as he went 5-6 with two homeruns and drove in seven. Asdrubal Cabrera also got on base five times (3-4, 2 BB) and Sebastien Boucher knocked in three with his two doubles. Doozy.
Notables:
Casey Abrams: 4.1 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K.
Sebastien Boucher: 2-6, 2 2B, 3 RBI.
Yung Chi Chen: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Asdrubal Cabrera: 3-4, 2 BB.
Matt Tuiasosopo: 2-5, 1 BB.
