Minor League Wrap-Up: 5/15/05

Albuquerque pummeled Tacoma, 10-2. What do you get when you mix a little Damian Moss with some Jeff Heaverlo and then sprinkle a little Tim Rall? An ass-kicking, of course. Moss wasn't death but wasn't real sharp either as he gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits while walking four. Heaverlo pitched an inning and couldn't escape without giving up two more runs and Tim Rall was smoked as he gave up four runs in the 8th. All in all, it wasn't a good night for Rainier pitching. Chris Snelling contines to swing a torrid bat and homered and Mike Morse and Shin-soo Choo both had multi-hit nights to lead the offense.

Notables:

Damian Moss: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K, 1 HR.
Jamal Strong: 1-4.
Shin-soo Choo: 2-3, 1 BB.
Chris Snelling: 1-4, 1 HR, 1 RBI.
Jose Lopez: 1-4, 1 2B.
Mike Morse: 2-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI.

San Antonio got by Frisco, 5-3. A strong performance turned in by Jon Huber in this one as Huber goes six shutout innings giving up only four hits while fanning six. Things got a bit rough when the normally effective Emiliano Fruto came in and flirted with disaster (1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 2 ER) but Sean Green was there to fall back on as he picked up his tenth save. Green jumps ahead of Josh Kinney to lead the Texas League in saves. Brian Moon's moonshot lifted the San Antonio offense and Yuniesky Betancourt's two hits helped as he's trying  to slowly inch his line up to respectability (.265/.290/.348, he has quite a bit to go).

Notables:

Jon Huber: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K.
Yuniesky Betancourt: 2-4, 1 2B.
T.J. Bohn: 1-4.
Jon Nelson: 1-4, 1 2B.
Jesse Hoorelbeke: 1-4, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Jesus Guzman: 1-3, 1 2B.
Brian Moon: 1-4, 1 HR, 3 RBI.

Lake Elsinore smoked Inland Empire, 10-3. Another not-so-great outing for Ryan Feierabend as he managed to go the minimum and gave up six runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out four. The loss drops Feierabend to 0-3 on the season. Wladimir Balentien homered and B.J. Garbe stroked to doubled to lead the 66'er offense.

Notables:

Ryan Feierabend: 5.0 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 2 HR.
Matt Rogelstad: 0-5.
Adam Jones: 1-4.
Wladimir Balentien: 1-3, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
Bryan Lahair: 0-4.
B.J. Garbe: 2-4, 2 2B.
Carlos Arroyo: 3-4, 1 2B.

Lansing smashed Wisconsin, 12-4. Aaron Jensen continued the organizational trend and was roughed up in his 2.2 innings as he gave up five runs ons six hits. Kendall Bergdall was the next victim and he was beat up (2.1 IP, 4, H, 3 R, 2 ER). Then in came Roman Martinez to give up four runs of his own. If your name was Yung Chi Chen, you were the only starter not to collect a hit as the offense was pretty Punch and Judy (1 XBH, double from Falcon).

Notables:

Aaron Jensen: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K.
Jack Arroyo: 1-4.
Asdrubal Cabrera: 1-2, 3 BB.
Matt Tuiasosopo: 1-5.
Brent Johnson: 2-2, 2 BB, 1 RBI.
Omar Falcon: 1-4, 1 2B.
Oswaldo Navarro: 1-3, 1 BB, 1 RBI.
