The 21-year-old righthander was the PTBNL in the Torrealba deal last night according to the AP and good ol' Rotoworld.
Carvajal is a live arm who was snatched by the Dodgers from Milwaukee in the 2004 Rule 5 draft and then flipped to Colorado for a couple of players the same day. He's possesses a pretty good slider and fastball but his most polished pitch is a straight change. Being only 21, Carvajal has shown a boatload of promise by blazing through the minors with impressive lines and strong strikeout rates. He held his own on the Rockies relief staff last season as a 20-year-old and showed strong peripherals including an impressive K/9 and relatively low WHIP for his environment.
Look for him in Tacoma as that is where he belongs (he only was on an ML roster last year so the Rockies wouldn't lose him) as he continues to refine his skill. However, he probably could do just fine in Seattle if they feel he's an option for the pen, which they probably are at this point.
A win for Bavasi by every measure.
