It's link day on Lookout Landing:

The Marlins reportedly are trying to trade reliever Ron Villone and his $2 million salary for the 2006 season.

The Mariners, according to sources, have contacted Florida about reacquiring Villone, who has served two tours of duty with the Mariners (1995 and 2004-05).

Upside:
-Not a bad lefty reliever
-Will probably come cheap, due to inflated Florida ERA
-Adding Villone all but ensures exit of Thornton
-Could keep a rotation spot warm to start the year while prospects develop in AAA, if need be

Downside:
-Replaceable commodity
-$2m price tag
-Not a role worth worrying about on a team with bigger problems
-Unnecessarily costs a prospect
