OTFPOTD 10!/7! edition
This post fulfills my weekly OTFPOTD quota. It's not my best work.
And don't question my use of signs, I'm aware the multiplication sign is a stupid looking star on the computer, but if it were real life, it would be a dot placed between the two numbers.
A Topic for Discussion
It's occurred to me that Lookout Landing should have a movie or theme park or such about it. Who would star? What would happen?

The Official Off-Topic FanPost of the Day, 9.22.08
Thoughts for the day, since I don't link dump in my OTFPOTDS
- What the hell, how is it already almost October?
- Who here is awesomely excited for COD - World at War?
- The Office premieres on Thursday. Here's to hoping that they don't follow the F-R-I-E-N-D-S model and start sacrificing comedy for plot around Seasons 4/5 (uh-oh...) leaving only traces of comedic brilliance.
- I've never been more impressed with the Mariners than I have over the past twelve days. Just when I thought they were a lock to miss 100 losses...
- pdb's wife was probably happier than I was around 3:30 PM on Saturday
- Keep updating LLikipedia!
- Keep the dream of Scrappy's alive!

OTFPOTD: Welcome to Scrappy's, 9/17/08
Hey!
Welcome to Scrappy's; make yourself at home - we just busted a keg of Dead Guy open (we like local beers), and someone will be by soon in case you need anything at all. Happy hour and half price appetizers run through 8:30.
Wander around and check the place out - we've got pool tables in the back, and an open air patio on the top floor, along with a lounge where we'll have some live entertainment later tonight - I think Mr. Ayala said he'd be in around 9 or so (torches and pitchforks located behind the bar).
If there's something you want to watch, feel free to change the channel - we've got MLB Extra Innings, NFL Sunday Ticket, ESPN GamePlan for hoops and football... and of course MTV. We also have CSPANsqrt(x) - right now they're broadcasting a special on the PRC's invasion of Arizona.
Anyway, welcome to Scrappy's. Stay, have a few drinks, and have a good time, but please, please don't drive yourself home. Designated drivers save lives!
Hearts,
The Management
(p.s. we're still looking for investors)
(p.p.s. update the LL Wiki)

The On-Topic TagPost of the Day (LL Awards edition)
In honor of the merciful end to the Mariners season, it's occurred to me that we should have some LL awards, complete with Academy-style voting on each one, and terrible, tearful acceptance speeches. Let's use this FanPost to put up nominees for each award (and whatever the hell else you people want to talk about). I figured we could at least have the following
Rookie of the Year
Commenter of the Year
Poster of the Year
Most Improved Commenter
Visiting Fan of the Year
Troll of the Year
Best FanPost
Best Thread or SubThread
Best FrontPage Post
Best Gamethread
Best Comment (non-image)
Best Comment (images permitted)
Beer of the Year
Best Pun (non-LaHair)
Meme of the Year (dead)
Meme of the Year (not so dead)
Best Tagger
Best Tag
Lastly, I leave you with this, even though I posted it yesterday, it's much too funny to not post again

Questions, musings, etc. from a few hours on StatCorner
Point 1 - thanks to the folks behind StatCorner, it's occupied a pretty good chunk of my day. Any chance we can get league average rates posted in the pop-up stat buttons though? Or was this intentional to encourage people like me to try and remember these numbers...
Also, any way we could get a short explanation in the glossary of something like the standard deviations of the various stats, so we have some frame of reference as to what's really good or really bad?
The search feature is awesome. Any word on when StatCorner minors might be coming?
Is Felix's walk rate a sign of trouble? His strike% looks to be down about 1.1% over last year - is this enough to lead to a nearly 3% spike in walk rate, or is this just some SSS wonkiness?
Cha Seung Baek's tRA+ is 108 for the season, and he's put together a decent 9.4% SwStr% and over 65% strikes while starting for SD. Beneficiary of moving to the NL, a guy who was always decent, luck, or some combination of the above?
Jonathan Sanchez has been a lot better than I thought he was
Adam Jones makes me sad... 1.8 runs below average as a 22 year old CF with good defense.

The On-Topic TagPost of the Day
I for one am sad the Olympics are over. The Olypmics are pretty much awesome in every way.
Now that they're over though, the world can shift its focus to other types of sporting events, primarily one played by students at many of America's largest universities, and which includes the use of a peculiarly shaped ball (no, not a Quaffle).
Last night, the following exchange took place on Sunday Night Baseball
MORGAN: Manny is hitting almost .600 off Blanton in his career
MILLER: In 24 at bats too, so it's not like he's 3 for 5
MORGAN: Yes, as you can see it's quite a big sampling
Fracture of English language and lack of knowledge of anything scientific (or about baseball for that matter)... must be Joe Morgan
Also, Jose Lopez is OPSing .693 in August. We may not be out of the woods for the Loafie's Annual Second Half Slump of the Year just yet, which means that - oh what the hell who am I kidding, I just want to write the tags.

It's 8:40 AM and there's no OTFPOTD
EDIT: It's now 8:55 and pdb posted an OTFPOTD but I spent a long time writing this so I'll leave it up anyway for discussion
This should suffice as today's off-topic post. First though, I'd like to mention how awesome the Olympics are from a completely non-political standpoint. It's truly amazing to watch the best athletes in the world at their respective sports all get together and give us this level of athletic competition for two and a half straight weeks. Yes, it's true, I don't the first thing about swimming techniques or beach volleyball strategy, but the athleticism, desire and hard work that these athletes put in is incredibly commendable and well worth watching. I can honestly say that I haven't gotten a whole lot of sleep the last couple weeks due to staying up late to watch the games.
All that being said, fuck you, NBC and ESPN, and whoever the hell was calling the Titans-Raiders preseason game on Fox the other day (I think it was Joe Buck). NBC - fuck you for not showing the games live on one of your ten or so subsidiary channels, and making the west coast wait three hours for the games. ESPN - fuck you for not only putting spoilers on your website (that's within our power not to check, so it's not that bad), but especially fuck you for running them in the bottom line and on in-game updates without giving a spoiler warning. I can't watch your station between 4PM and 8PM anymore because I don't want to know what happened. Lastly, fuck you, Joe Buck for out of nowhere blurting out that Michael Phelps had won his seventh gold medal during a football game that was PLAYED ON THE WEST COAST.

What's your favorite state in America for any reason
Beer

Champagne
Things I want - a G5
Things that are better than watching the Mariners
People who you like more than Carlos Silva
Oh yeah - Carlos Triunfel --> AA
Lastly, overheard this morning on the vanpool
(referencing the Chargers preseason game which ended with them losing 7-6)
"you would think that they'd be able to do better than 7-6! I mean I know it was the third string players, but they've done what their whole live, play football? And all they could manage was 7-6? That's terrible."
Yeah... believe it or not, the defensive players have also been playing football their whole lives...
