Introducing The Miami Marlins
"The Marlins, Miami-Dade County, the city of Miami and Major League Baseball reached agreement late Friday to finance a $515 million ballpark at the site of the Orange Bowl, according to a source.
The agreement was not released, but was expected to be distributed to county and city commissioners, who will need to approve it. The city has scheduled a special commission meeting to consider the deal at 9 a.m. Thursday; the county commission is to meet at 1 p.m. that day.
The deal calls for the county and city to contribute $360 million mainly in tourist taxes and a $50 million general obligation bond Miami-Dade voters approved in 2004 to renovate the Orange Bowl, but which will instead be moved to the ballpark project. The Marlins are to contribute $155 million.
The Marlins hope to break ground by year's end with the stadium opening by April 2011, when the team would be renamed the Miami Marlins."

McClaren looking at Charlton or Perlozzo and maybe BOONE or BOSIO
http://www.thenewstribune.com/sports/mariners/story/174484.html
Ew.
---
John McLaren's formal list of potential coaches includes some of the best and brightest minds in Seattle Mariners history - from former third-base coach Sam Perlozzo to ex-reliever Norm Charlton.
The list of former Mariners coaches and players who'd like to work for McLaren is even longer.
The latter includes Chris Bosio, a Seattle pitcher who spent a year as the pitching coach in Tampa Bay; Lee Elia, a long-time coach, manager and now scout; and a candidate who considers himself a "great coach" - former Mariners second baseman Bret Boone.
"I'm the best coach in my own mind, even though I've never coached in my life," Boone said, laughing. "John is a good friend, and we've talked baseball a lot. Last summer he told me, `You can't play golf every day for the rest of your life, when are you going to get back into baseball?'
"Has he asked me to coach - no. If he did, I'd consider it."
Two men whom it appears McLaren will ask, now that meetings with the Seattle front office in Arizona have concluded, are Charlton and Perlozzo.

http://www.sonicscentral.com/blog/
Make sure you read the post and the comments in full to get the whole picture.
I seriously hope this is all accurate.
I still hate the owners, but yeah. Still waiting for confirmation by the papers, but it appears legit.

OT: Vomit Inducing News On Sonics
I put this in my downfall thread, but it doesnt fit there, so here it is. Hughes and Williams hinted at a 'jaw dropping' article for today, and they were not lying.
Ughhh looks like the NBA is our only hope:
During the 40-minute meeting Wednesday, the team employee said Bennett provided the group with details of what Oklahoma City is willing to pay for to woo the Sonics:
"He lit up like a Christmas tree," the source said of Bennett's reaction to the employee's question. "He got real happy and he started spouting off these things."
----------------
"He basically said that the only way an arena is going to get done in Seattle is if something falls out of the sky," the source said. "Those were his exact words."

Ive never been closer to rooting for a catastrophe on someone as I am now. I hope they all go bankrupt on their private jet's flight to hell.

Bavasi Retaliates With Awesomeness
Bill Bavasi has some choice words for Florida Marlins president, Dave Samson:
-------
"My mother always taught me that if the only thing you have to say is, '(Expletive) Dave Samson,' then don't say anything at all," Bavasi said Thursday. "So I'm not going to say anything at all. Is my mother the greatest or what?"
-------
More goodness, Ichiro's agent rips him:
-------
Agent Tony Attanasio, who orchestrated Ichiro's contract, was nonplussed by Samson's comments.
"Apparently Mr. Samson has never heard of a guy named (Tom) Hicks or the Texas Rangers or something that happened there a few years ago," Attanasio said of the A-Rod contract. "I don't know what he's talking about, but obviously he doesn't know too much about baseball."
-------
I dont care much for Bavasi, but saying 'Fuck Dave Samson' is just awesome.
