I don't really have time right now to add much/any commentary to this, but in the interest of pushing the countdown along, here you go.

Jarrod Washburn's five starts against the Yankees while pitching as a Mariner (I can't believe he's only been here two years):

32 IP
31 H
4 HR
7 BB
23 K
12 R (8 ER)

It's nothing spectacular, but when viewed in the context of this being Jarrod Washburn facing some of the most terrifying lineups the world has seen in a long time, you understand why it's noteworthy. There's no reason for it to happen, but it has, and as Matsui hopelessly flailed away, Jarrod bellowed a paleolithic roar, and you couldn't help but feel like he's probably killed a few men in his day. And also that, hey, that was awesome.

If I had to guess
The abundance of lefty hitters in the New York lineup vs. the righty bench bats they have to replace them.  Eric O'Flaherty did the same thing to the Yanks twice earlier in the season (2.1 IP giving up 1 run and a 4.2 gem striking out 3 and giving up only 1 hit).

Take out Matsui, Abreu, Cano, Damon, and Giambi and you're left just facing Jeter, Alex, and Posada.  Much better odds of winning if you turn 5 good players into black holes.

I will not make jokes in my sig. I will not make jokes in my sig. I will not...

This was my first ever MLB game in person
And as such, it was extra special for me.  I'll always have a soft spot for Jarrod after what he did in this game.  There were plenty of Yankee fans in the crowd that day, and they were all shut the fuck up Jarrod.  Oh, and Putz got a save as well.  What a cool first game.
And to think, I could have chosen to support the Yankees or Red Sox...
