And, on the fateful day, everything that could go wrong went wrong in spectacular fashion.

season = over
It doesn't hurt anymore...
ps...Johnny Mac's bullpen management in just the last 2 games is enough grounds for termination. are you listening FA?
This isn't on Mac.

I am so upset
As a Seattle sports fan,
it's better to be pleasantly surprised, but enjoy the ride while it lasts.
Spoken like a true Seattle Sports fan..

Perhaps but
i guess i might find it a bit hard to pity Tampa bay.
We played meaningful games in September.
So Cleveland, Boston, Anahiem, and New York for the AL. GAAAAAAAAY!
Fuck the AL. Go D-Backs!
In a perfect world it would be a D-Backs/Pads WS
The division lead has been going back and
Speaking of crazy, Conor Jackson just hit a two run bomb off of Peavy in the first. I think thats the first time we've scored against Peavy all season.
Both teams have smart GMs and great players
The Pads have assembled a great roster through inspired acquisitions: Maddux, Young, Gonzalez, Bradley, etc.
Both have a genuine motherfuckin' ACE in Peavy and Webb (and the Pads also have the honky C. Young). As a Nats fan I also like seeing the rubber-armed Livan! succeed in his new home.
I hope the NLCS is a 7 game grudge match between the two teams. Honestly, I'd have to flip a coin between which team I prefer, but I suppose that the D-Backs' flaunting of their Pythagorean plus the presence of Livo makes me slightly prefer them.
Crap, I forgot Justin Upton...
Well, to their credit
I am not a Livan Hernandez fan.
I hate losing.
I've been defending Jose Lopez to a bunch
Are the Seahawks worth following?
I disagree
Despite over 40 injuries last year, they pushed the SB Bears to the brink.
The team is still elite. Dont let ESPN fool you.
Unlike the Mariners
Plus the roster is just flat out awesome. BARAKA!
The Seahawks care. They were screwed in the SB a couple years ago, and I think they want the rings that were rightfully theres. Im confident in them.
They're in 2003 Mariners mode
Disagree
Hasselbeck and Alexander aren't getting younger
NFL RBs are ridiculously easy to replace
Hass has got 3 to 4 good years left in him
As for Boulware I don't think he was overrated I just think he was poorly used and didn't have the right Safety partner to back him up. A Grant/Boulware Safety tandem excites me a lot more than a Grant/Russel

The bright side?
Go Lions
eh, maybe it is not so bright.
Well
I was one of the ones still convinced they were going to drop off eventually.
Hockey season is less than a month away
Who am I kidding? It fucking hurts.

Will they even be that good this year? At all? Im really asking...
I have no idea.

Sorry
Its not my fault though, I had no idea everyone hates the Leafs until it was too late.
I just hate the Stars and Blue. Oh and the New York teams. Screw them. Oh, and the Penguins! Booo. Crosby looks awesome though. I just hate Pittsburgh, so thats not a hard one to figure.
Time to watch Federer destroy Roddick again
Thats always fun!
It was funny watching the Serena chick get her ass handed to her.
actually Roddick was so overrated
I personally think
When one of my guys face them, im always worried about Blake more.
My guys are
Federer, Safin, Nadal, Ferrero, and Hewitt. Hewitt used to be my favorite, but the other 4 were kinda climbing the charts together, so I rooted for all 4...had no idea they would be as good as they are.
Gotta work on my eye though, as I claimed Federer would be the 3rd best of the 4, with Nadal behind him.
They really make tennis fun now. Then again, Virtua Tennis probably contributed a ton. Awesome game.
The Williams' sisters look like men
women's tennis isn't even a sport
no, not even close
You think so?
I think Roddick's serve is very impressive, but it seems to me like he only goes crazy killing himself on the court when he is up against Federer.
While I dont like Roddick, I have to give him credit for his performance last night. But man, Federer is awesome.
It wouldn't be too hard to say that Federer is one of the 5 most impressive athletes right now.
Roddick needs to lose the gut. It freaks me out.
At least the Hawks season starts Sunday
This is great...

I know tonight wasn't Mac
So many brought their C game tonight.
Wash played tough, so did Ichiro. But what a fucking ugly way to ashcan a season.
RIP Bullpen
Our offense is what it is, our starting pitching is what it is, but the bullpen was solid as a rock for almost the whole season.
I'm not sure if it's the incredibly long stretch of games that did it or the addition of John Parrish and Rick White but for a while, it's gotten pretty difficult to feel comfortable with a lead.
Whatever, we're still going to the playoffs.
Hey Jeff
And you wonder why I hate them worse than the Red Sox?
by eponymous coward on Sep 5, 2007 7:23 PM PDT reply actions
We fucked our October hopes.
For four years of my life I had to deal with Red Sox and Yankee fans on a daily basis. I've made my decision and will continue to stand by it.

Go Boston and Go Detroit from here on out
Mac sounded frustrated.

You know how during games
I'm expanding my gut feeling to say, "we aren't going to be a .500 team when this is all said and done are we?"
I think that'd be comical if we don't..I'm kinda hoping for it now. Get some people out the door who don't belong.
Great season, guys
That said, fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkk.
so when are we going to start streaking

Can we start playing AJ more often now?
by houseofprime2 on Sep 5, 2007 7:45 PM PDT reply actions
Even if they turn it around to Just Terrible
It's going to take more than smoke and mirrors for them to go .500 the rest of the year.
I kinda gave up when
On the plus side my school is #1 in the polls!
Wait, no, nevermind.

Wow, then it really must of been bad.
Yes they did
Or at least the live version went black
It only came back when he was walking off the mound.

He flipped it over his shoulder at the ump.

FSN Northwest edition; Best I could do
The first three photos are from the slow motion replay, the last one is live.
Rick White got tossed as soon as he pointed his glove.

Rotoworld can be funny some times.
Yeah, we're amazed he's still in the league, too."
George Sherrill is pissed off.
"It's easier for hitters to get comfortable,'' Sherrill said of the impact not getting corner calls can have.
His 3-2 pitch to Wilson Betemit was called a ball and Sherrill walked up and talked to the umpire.
"He told me that Kenji (Johjima) moved his mitt too much,'' Sherrill said. "I think he needs to read the rules but what are you going to do?''
Sherrill added that his interpretation of the rules is that a pitch is called a ball or strike based on where it crosses the plate, not where the catcher frames it.
"It's Yankee Stadium, what are you going to do?'' he said with a shrug.
This on the heels
I'm all for robot umpires.

we're about 5 years away

I could be remembering this wrong
by Jeff Sullivan on Sep 5, 2007 8:26 PM PDT up reply actions
I WISH
I said able to
You can already have programs/robot call balls and strikes (though this needs to be better, witness Gameday) and fair/foul.
One they figure out a way to call safe/out, we've got our bases pretty much covered except for things like calling the infield fly rule, GR2Bs, balks, etc.
We're about 1 year away from actually being able to field test a one man umpire crew (where the one person just calls things I outlined above), and it'll take a few years to better the technology, but there you go.
Given baseball's rate of adopting new idea, I'd say this might gain traction sometime around 2078.
Huge for Detroit...

Stupid MLB
Click On Bottom Half Of 8th
MLB blocked it as it happened but they show a replay after the "commercial break".
Annoyingly useless fact of the day
9 of those games feature a team scoring only 2 runs.
Only 1 of those teams won their game.
On to Detroit...
Alright, positive time.
I'm telling you
I'm just saying that we
I'm not totally giving up on the season
Sure, anything can happen in baseball. Such as the Mariners going from 1.0 game back to 7.5 games back of the AL West lead in a matter of days....going from 3.0 up from the Yankees to 3.0 down from the Yankees.
This team is accomplishing some amazing feats. Unfortunately, those feats are in the wrong direction.
M's still have an outside chance but if they're even to THINK about still making it to the playoffs that bullpen has to be rock solid real quick.
Bullpen Out = Game Over.
We have a day off tomorrow.
We're not giving up...

This doesn't bother me.
Chuck Darby.
It could be worse
Well hopefully his brother will
Why the fuck would we give up during the
I don't know.
War of 1812, Barbary Wars,
I'm stunned that you guys think you won 1812

Isn't part of the reason Canada exists
Yeah, we really don't discuss that war in school, for whatever reason ;P
our country still exists
Otherwise you could call Vietnam a win for us. Since our goal for entering the conflict was to prevent the spread of communism throughout asia and for the most part it didn't.
We weren't trying to invade or destroy the US
From the British point of view, the war was an object lesson to James Madison not to try to interfere with the Napoleonic Wars (by cutting food supplies to the UK). He didn't really get the point very quickly, and by the time it was over and done it was beggining to become quite expensive and aggravating to Whitehall.
Oh, and y'all invaded Canada too.
by Graham MacAree on Sep 6, 2007 5:03 PM PDT up reply actions
pfffft, whatever
We didn't
The first one.
Don't get it confused with the latest gulf conflict (where we did capture Saddam, and that WAS the goal).
That's true..
But the first Gulf War, we achieved our goal, which was to liberate Kuwait.
Wasn't Rick White
