season = over
and no, this is not GTE.  Fun season.  Go M's in 2008!
WHAT ARE YOU DOING JOHNNY MAC?!?!

by MFAN on Sep 5, 2007 6:34 PM PDT   0 recs

It doesn't hurt anymore...
I guess I came to accept this fate after attending the 3 games against the Angels.

ps...Johnny Mac's bullpen management in just the last 2 games is enough grounds for termination.  are you listening FA?

"You just got AJ-aculated on!"

by wwbaker3 on Sep 5, 2007 6:37 PM PDT   0 recs

This isn't on Mac.
The whole team just started sucking.

by Jeff on Sep 5, 2007 6:40 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I am so upset
And yet this is a familiar feeling.

by phil333 on Sep 5, 2007 6:41 PM PDT   0 recs

As a Seattle sports fan,
never get your hopes up, cuz your dreams will be dashed, and your heart will be broken.

it's better to be pleasantly surprised, but enjoy the ride while it lasts.

"You just got AJ-aculated on!"

by wwbaker3 on Sep 5, 2007 6:44 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Spoken like a true Seattle Sports fan..
and I've been one since 1961, at age 8...we never really expect anything good to ever happen, since it rarely has.  One NBA championship in 1979, and a shared National Championship in College Football have been the 2 shining moments in Seattle Sports history...well, at least we are not Tampa Bay

by LongBeachDave on Sep 5, 2007 8:18 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Perhaps but
they won a super bowl in 2002 right?

i guess i might find it a bit hard to pity Tampa bay.

by moero on Sep 6, 2007 8:15 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

We played meaningful games in September.
Hell of an upgrade over the last few seasons.

So Cleveland, Boston, Anahiem, and New York for the AL. GAAAAAAAAY!

Fuck the AL. Go D-Backs!

These pretzels....are making me thirsty!

by Goose on Sep 5, 2007 6:45 PM PDT   0 recs

In a perfect world it would be a D-Backs/Pads WS
Those are the two playoff-bound teams that I really enjoy watching.  Their headbutting over the last few games has been something to see.

by esoteric on Sep 5, 2007 6:52 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

The division lead has been going back and
forth almost daily now between the two for about a month. It's been crazy.

Speaking of crazy, Conor Jackson just hit a two run bomb off of Peavy in the first. I think thats the first time we've scored against Peavy all season.

These pretzels....are making me thirsty!

by Goose on Sep 5, 2007 7:00 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Both teams have smart GMs and great players
The D-Backs have all that great young talent developed in their minor league system: Drew, Young, Jackson, Quentin, etc.  (One of the reasons I'm so optimistic about the future of my FIRST team, the Nats, is because we poached Mike Rizzo from you guys.)

The Pads have assembled a great roster through inspired acquisitions: Maddux, Young, Gonzalez, Bradley, etc.

Both have a genuine motherfuckin' ACE in Peavy and Webb (and the Pads also have the honky C. Young).  As a Nats fan I also like seeing the rubber-armed Livan! succeed in his new home.

I hope the NLCS is a 7 game grudge match between the two teams.  Honestly, I'd have to flip a coin between which team I prefer, but I suppose that the D-Backs' flaunting of their Pythagorean plus the presence of Livo makes me slightly prefer them.

by esoteric on Sep 6, 2007 12:49 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Crap, I forgot Justin Upton...
...and Mark Reynolds when talking about the D-Backs' young talent.  They've done a fantastic job of spotting and developing the kiddies.

by esoteric on Sep 6, 2007 12:52 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Well, to their credit
They don't have a lot of veterans, as they cleaned house 2-3 years back and reduced their budget, so they didn't really have any choice but to play the kids.

by Gomez on Sep 6, 2007 8:14 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I am not a Livan Hernandez fan.
That fat fuck and his hudini act. His ERA should be three points higher with all the goddamn men he puts on base.
These pretzels....are making me thirsty!

by Goose on Sep 6, 2007 9:22 AM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I hate losing.
But at least I can start a regular sleeping pattern again now.  But my life will be a whole lot emptier.

by EnglishMariner on Sep 5, 2007 6:46 PM PDT   0 recs

I've been defending Jose Lopez to a bunch
of people lately, but this was an ugly game to go with an ugly season.
What do I look like, a guy who's not lazy?

by Rollo Tomasi on Sep 5, 2007 6:49 PM PDT   0 recs

Are the Seahawks worth following?
I hate gridiron and I refuse to get involved in a new sport from now on unless the team in question is awesome.

by EnglishMariner on Sep 5, 2007 6:50 PM PDT   0 recs

You are two years too late
Hawks are far from dominant

by johnbai on Sep 5, 2007 6:52 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I disagree
100000%.

Despite over 40 injuries last year, they pushed the SB Bears to the brink.

The team is still elite. Dont let ESPN fool you.

by Slica on Sep 5, 2007 6:54 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Unlike the Mariners
You can actually trust the Seahawks to give a shit. To play at a high level. To feel motivated after doing something wrong.

Plus the roster is just flat out awesome. BARAKA!

The Seahawks care. They were screwed in the SB a couple years ago, and I think they want the rings that were rightfully theres. Im confident in them.

by Slica on Sep 5, 2007 6:59 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

they have a competent front office
which is good enough for me.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING JOHNNY MAC?!?!

by MFAN on Sep 5, 2007 7:01 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

They're in 2003 Mariners mode
They're not as good as before, but this is probably the last real chance for the current crew.

by Gomez on Sep 5, 2007 7:30 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Disagree
The Mariners were really in content mode after 2001 cruising with the same roster. Ruskell has done a good job of bringing in new talent every year to fill weaknesses without handicapping him himself with the cap for future years. Brought in Kearney and Pollard this year, traded an overvalued Boulware for an undervalued Babin. Supper Bowl predictions are never easy to make, but this is a team who's #1 priority is a Super Bowl and fielding a lasting team, something the 2002-2003 Mariners could never claim
Don't listen to their lies, Bill! Look at the sparkly ERA! Sparkly sparkly! - McCovey Chronicles

by Trenchtown2 on Sep 5, 2007 7:44 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Hasselbeck and Alexander aren't getting younger
It's easy to swap out role players, but what's gonna happen when the two biggest pieces give way?

by Gomez on Sep 5, 2007 7:45 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Hass has got 3 to 4 good years left in him
RB are a dime a dozen and are all products of there offensive line.

As for Boulware I don't think he was overrated I just think he was poorly used and didn't have the right Safety partner to back him up. A Grant/Boulware Safety tandem excites me a lot more than a Grant/Russel

Shop smart......Shop s-mart...... YOU GOT THAT!!!!

by Scruffy Lefty on Sep 5, 2007 8:39 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

And
last years pass rushing minus the oakland game sucked leaving the qb with time to pick apart our secondary, but that i belive is shored up this year with better group of d linemen
Only it turned out drug dealers and pimps appreciate art.

The bright side?
Football season starts tomorrow...
Go Lions
eh, maybe it is not so bright.

Off with the M's hat
on with the seahawks hat.
This is me not lurking.

by PhilKenSebben on Sep 5, 2007 6:54 PM PDT   0 recs

Well
I would of loved being in the playoffs, but I didnt expect the team to get this close.

I was one of the ones still convinced they were going to drop off eventually.

by Slica on Sep 5, 2007 6:57 PM PDT   0 recs

Hockey season is less than a month away
And we've got football/college football now. It will make the prospect of another meaningless September a little easier. Not much, just a tiny tiny bit.

Who am I kidding? It fucking hurts.

by phil333 on Sep 5, 2007 6:57 PM PDT   0 recs

GO SENS GO
No hockey-related agony until May or June YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

by Jeff on Sep 5, 2007 6:58 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

You had your shot
Go Sabres! (we're so screwed after FA)

Will they even be that good this year? At all? Im really asking...

by Slica on Sep 5, 2007 7:00 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I have no idea.
The great thing about hockey for me is that I follow it in a completely different way than I follow baseball. I'm not analytical. I'm worried about things like line chemistry and mental preparation. I don't try to predict things, and where I might make snarky comments when the Mariners hit or allow a homer, every goal scored by or against the Sens draws a strong visceral reaction.

I love hockey.

by Jeff on Sep 5, 2007 7:03 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

"I have no idea"
Well, that gives me a reason to watch, eh?

Go Sabres, or Avs!!!

My motto:
Anyone but the Leafs.

And Ducks.

Have fun with Roenick.
I hear his attitude and ability are major assets.

by Jeff on Sep 5, 2007 7:11 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I'll take him
over Mark Bell.

by Paytheline on Sep 5, 2007 7:19 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Drunk Mark Bell: promising power forward
Sober Mark Bell: sorry shitbag

Hmm.

by Jeff on Sep 5, 2007 7:21 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Sorry
but I have to root for the Leafs if the Avs (liked them since mid-90s), Sabres (liked them since the Stars debacle, I felt sorry for them), or Lightning (Martin St Louis!) all suck.

Its not my fault though, I had no idea everyone hates the Leafs until it was too late.

I just hate the Stars and Blue. Oh and the New York teams. Screw them. Oh, and the Penguins! Booo. Crosby looks awesome though. I just hate Pittsburgh, so thats not a hard one to figure.

Time to watch Federer destroy Roddick again
whenever it is they actually play

by Matthew on Sep 5, 2007 7:01 PM PDT   0 recs

Thats always fun!
Roddick is amazingly overrated.

It was funny watching the Serena chick get her ass handed to her.

by Slica on Sep 5, 2007 7:03 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

actually Roddick was so overrated
that he's now underrated, but Roger Federer is the most dominant athlete of the last 25 years at least.

by Matthew on Sep 5, 2007 7:17 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

I personally think
James Blake is overall better than him.

When one of my guys face them, im always worried about Blake more.

My guys are

Federer, Safin, Nadal, Ferrero, and Hewitt. Hewitt used to be my favorite, but the other 4 were kinda climbing the charts together, so I rooted for all 4...had no idea they would be as good as they are.

Gotta work on my eye though, as I claimed Federer would be the 3rd best of the 4, with Nadal behind him.

They really make tennis fun now. Then again, Virtua Tennis probably contributed a ton. Awesome game.

by Slica on Sep 5, 2007 7:29 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

men's tennis isn't worth watching.
Go Venus!

women's tennis isn't even a sport
it might as well be the WNBA

by Matthew on Sep 5, 2007 8:20 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

no, not even close
Roddick is better than Blake

by Matthew on Sep 5, 2007 8:20 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

You think so?
Wow.

I think Roddick's serve is very impressive, but it seems to me like he only goes crazy killing himself on the court when he is up against Federer.

While I dont like Roddick, I have to give him credit for his performance last night. But man, Federer is awesome.

It wouldn't be too hard to say that Federer is one of the 5 most impressive athletes right now.

Roddick needs to lose the gut. It freaks me out.

good timing.

by LongBeachDave on Sep 5, 2007 8:21 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Yes
which means that they're really pissed.  And you didn't see Oregon run defense last week.  Neither team has a defense, so whoever has the ball last wins.

I know tonight wasn't Mac
But 29-31 under him. Just saying.

by phil333 on Sep 5, 2007 7:07 PM PDT   0 recs

So many brought their C game tonight.
Lopez, Sherrill, Yuni, Guillen, O'Flaherty, . . .

Wash played tough, so did Ichiro.  But what a fucking ugly way to ashcan a season.

by Paytheline on Sep 5, 2007 7:12 PM PDT   0 recs

RIP Bullpen
Our last line of defense is finally shot.

Our offense is what it is, our starting pitching is what it is, but the bullpen was solid as a rock for almost the whole season.

I'm not sure if it's the incredibly long stretch of games that did it or the addition of John Parrish and Rick White but for a while, it's gotten pretty difficult to feel comfortable with a lead.

Whatever, we're still going to the playoffs.

by ThundaPC on Sep 5, 2007 7:15 PM PDT   0 recs

Hey Jeff
Once again, a Yankee team fucks our October hopes.

And you wonder why I hate them worse than the Red Sox?

by eponymous coward on Sep 5, 2007 7:23 PM PDT   0 recs

We fucked our October hopes.
In case you didn't notice, the Mariners have lost 11 of their past 12 games.

For four years of my life I had to deal with Red Sox and Yankee fans on a daily basis. I've made my decision and will continue to stand by it.

by Jeff on Sep 5, 2007 7:25 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Go Boston and Go Detroit from here on out
I HOPE we get swept by Detroit.
I fucking hate you Mariners

by kentroyals5 on Sep 5, 2007 7:30 PM PDT   0 recs

Mac sounded frustrated.
Can't wait for Baker's postgame audio for this one, if he is doing one that is.

by ThundaPC on Sep 5, 2007 7:31 PM PDT   0 recs

well
I blame Parrish and White's veteran presence for making the rest of the bullpen suck. If having vets in the clubhouse can magically make other players better, the reverse should also be true.

by mobvok on Sep 5, 2007 7:35 PM PDT   0 recs

You know how during games
you get that sinking feeling that "we aren't going to win this are we?"

I'm expanding my gut feeling to say, "we aren't going to be a .500 team when this is all said and done are we?"

I think that'd be comical if we don't..I'm kinda hoping for it now.  Get some people out the door who don't belong.

I fucking hate you Mariners

Can we start playing AJ more often now?
I'm not gonna ask for Wlad because he won't be a mariner next year unless vidro or sexson goes.
You may run like Mays but you hit like shit

by houseofprime2 on Sep 5, 2007 7:45 PM PDT   0 recs

Even if they turn it around to Just Terrible
instead of Freakin' Horrible, they may not win any more than 8 of the next 24.

It's going to take more than smoke and mirrors for them to go .500 the rest of the year.

by JOlderdude on Sep 5, 2007 7:53 PM PDT   0 recs

I kinda gave up when
we lost that Anaheim season. With college football on the horizon there just wasn't much reason for me to get excited about the M's anymore.

On the plus side my school is #1 in the polls!

FSN Northwest edition; Best I could do

The first three photos are from the slow motion replay, the last one is live.

Rick White got tossed as soon as he pointed his glove.
