The 2007 Scouting Report, By The Fans, For The Fans

For the fifth year in a row, I am once again asking for hardcore baseball fans to participate in the annual Scouting Report project, in which you evaluate the fielding characteristics of players on your team. If you have a few minutes, please drop by and evaluate the M's:

Done!
Let's just say Raul didn't rate highly.
Horacio Ramirez is God's gift to whoever the Mariners happen to be playing.

I gave him a good rating on accuracy,
that was about it.

Same here.
Neither did Sexson.

tt = The Man
but I think we all know that.

I wish could participate in this, but my Mariner fandom has been restricted to the radio the past few years. Willie Ballgame sure sounds like a defensive wizard though.

Just noting
that in the 2006 version, the # of ratings for the Mariners far exceeded those for every other team.  Most teams had about 20 ratings for their players, while the Mariners had a few players with more than 200.  It's particularly amazing that Ichiro got an overall score of 91 with a .92 agreement level.  I wonder if that's due to the gigantic sample size of 234?

This is a project
best left until I get home from work and can focus on it completely.  But I've watched plenty of Mariners games and can rate these guys with some certainty.

Thanks
Thanks for the link, and I appreciate the overwhelming response (here and at USSM).

93 of the last 120 ballots I received are for the Mariners.

.92
The high agreement level of Ichiro had nothing to do with the sample size.

And yes, the Mariner ballots of last year far exceeded those of any other team.  Every year, it's a question of whether USSM and LookoutLanding can beat SOSH (Redsox) for participation.

One thing I wonder about
However, is whether the high level of agreement comes from the fact that almost all of the Mariner fans who vote in the survey get there via USSM and LL.  Selection bias, basically.  You might want to see if you can get Geoff Baker to plug the project on his Seattle Times blog, which covers a much larger non-sabermetric demographic, and see what the results are.

Selection bias
I agree there could be selection bias.

My feeling, from the time I spend on USSM and here, is that there are many opposing viewpoints.  If anything, I would think USSM and LL attracts a more diverse crowd than a mainstream publication would.  I could be wrong though.

I was going to ask my contact at MLB.com to see if he can post a link to my project in a couple of weeks, thereby putting in a demarcation point, and comparing the results between bloggers, and a much wider (though likely less passionate) audience.

Whoa
I just said the same thing at your blog.   It's a really interesting topic, but I wonder how to make it testable.  I was thinking YuBet might be a good test case of what I'll call the Cameron phenomenon, but it might not.
I wonder if Willie Ballgame's better.

Seriously, if either of you guys have any ideas about how to measure this...i'm all ears.

Done and done.
I'm a little uncomfortable rating the catchers, though.

Done. Also did my ratings for most of the D-Backs
as well.

I made a pretty big mistake
in pretending Jason Ellison's name was Adam Jones'.

What did everyone put for Betancourt's accuracy?

I only get to visit Seattle about once a year
so I only see a couple of games in person each season.  I would have been really disappointed if Yuni hadn't airmailed one into the dugout while I was there.

But he did.  Good for him.

I put it as "3-Average" just because
he's seemed to go way down on throwing errors since May/June.

other than that...
i rated him very highly...
