Today we celebrate our nation's independence by reflecting on our subjugation at the hands of the imperialist kingdom of Kansas City. We've already declared our autonomy by spurning one royal family; it's time to do it again.

And sadly, I had to go check out Royals Review to get the city name, because I forgot it.

by eagle on Jul 4, 2007 6:38 PM PDT reply actions

Who's to say Adam Jones is going to hit?
Sure he's tearing it up in the minors, but what does that mean when he's facing pitchers regularly throwing in the mid 90's with actual out pitches?

I know he's got to come up and be a regular sometime, but I think it's crazy to predict that he will automatically be a .800-.1000 OPS guy when he does come up.

The only sure thing I see that Adam Jones brings to the club right now is an upgrade at LF.

by TheMarinator on Jul 4, 2007 6:42 PM PDT up reply actions

i'm not arguing
that his performance would directly translate.

i think that he's a big upgrade in LF and with the way Raul is playing (hurt) he can't be much worse offensively.

The reason he moves so slowly

He is underrated though isn't he?
Trade the Ogre

by mariners11 on Jul 4, 2007 7:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, he is.
But he's not a star player. He's a B with a B+ peak.

by Jeff Sullivan on Jul 4, 2007 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

If anything
being on KC increases his chance, since he's one of the better hitters on a poor team.

by jtopps on Jul 4, 2007 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

109 pitches for Washburn
What the hell, send him out for the ninth. He'll get a long break.

Feierabend gets shelled by Royals... another big winning streak on the horizon?

Since when did Putz become a groundball pitcher.

Dang.

Mac gets his first official win as the non-substitute manager.  Good on him.  Can't wait for his postgame interview.  He'll have a smile and a shaving creme pie...

Tony LaRussa has jumped the shark.
He ran out a Duncan/Ludwick/Encarnacion outfield today. That worse than Ibanez/Ballgame/Carl from a year ago.

Unrelated to this game
but Kevin Durant and Jeff Green have signed 2 year deals with options for the 3rd and 4th years, worth about $2.7 million each.

They're doing a postgame interview with McLaren and they are playing some crazy techno hip hop in the background.
