The Greatest News Of The Year
I don't think I need to say anything more about this.
I can't remember the last time this team made me so absolutely, thoroughly happy.

It's really hard to be skeptical on this
ICHIRO HURTS THIS TEAM BY NOT SIGNING BIG CONTRACTS.
by tworsandtwols on Jul 10, 2007 2:19 PM PDT 0 recs
Not to be disgusting, but
I-CHI-RO!!
I-CHI-RO!!
I am also happy it's a 5 year deal, and not a 7 year deal. Not even Ichiro can keep his current pace as a 38 year old.
Seriously though, I don't care if it's for 25 million a year for 5 years. He deserves every penny.
I am so happy right now!!

Honestly?
Let's face it, too -- with Ichiro locked up, I'm a little bit more scared about the trade deadline (even though I'm really not horribly frightened since everything I've heard says Bavasi has told everyone "no" when folks ask about AJ). I doubt they'll trade AJ, unless Santana or any other young stud SP suddenly becomes available. But, still, there's a huge part of me that doesn't trust Bavasi not to panic at the deadline and sell the rest of the farm for a crappy SP.
I'm legitimately concerned about that. I don't trust Bavasi at the trade deadline in buying mode. After the Soriano trade and the Snelling/Fruto trade, we still have a lot to be concerned about w/r/t Bavasi and his ability to be a buyer on the trade market.

That said, if they can deal for a marginally better SP without dealing away any key prospects, then huzzah, but it's not necessary.

Excellent news!
I saw Adam Jones in Portland last week. He was playing RF. I wondered why, and now I know...
WARNING! Conspiracy theory follows! -
Is Jones getting called up to be "showcased" in RF? I hope not. But the timing is weird.
