44-33

Win late on Saturday night + day game on Sunday = standard You Write The Recap! It might seem like I'm slacking off a little bit, which is totally true, but in my defense even winning can wear you out sometimes, and not in my defense I should've read the label of that beer before having so much of it. Fortunately, with the way the Mariners are playing right now I think you'll all survive. It's gotten to the point now where the team's so hot that you develop this kind of staggering confidence that can't even be shaken by a seemingly terrible pitching matchup. Regardless of whether you're facing Dustin McGowan or Roy Halladay, you look for the ways to beat them and assume that the Mariners will follow through. No one ought to get cocky, because these guys haven't won anything yet, but when's the last time you could've been accused of taking a win for granted?

Slowly but surely, Safeco's beginning to regain that old environment of enthusiasm and expectation. And in a way, every win makes the next one more important. Why stop at seven? Win tomorrow and the ensuing trip to Kansas City stands a chance of making this something for the ages. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but why shouldn't I? This is as good as the Mariners have looked in years. Let a brother dream.

Biggest Contribution: Sean Green, +13.2%
Biggest Suckfest: Kenji Johjima, -8.8%
Most Important At Bat: Beltre single, +16.6%
Most Important Pitch: Wells double play, +13.6%
Total Contribution by Pitcher(s): +25.9%
Total Contribution by Position Players: +21.5%
Total Contribution by Opposition: +2.6%

(What is this chart?)

Weaver and Marcum tomorrow afternoon at 1:05pm. I'd say "Raul should be back in the lineup for this one" but even I'm getting sick of hearing that. And frankly, with the way things are going, he can take his sweet ass time.

Too bad Ibanez is Mr. Mariner,
otherwise we could package him and Vidro up and ship them out of here.

To who?
The Pirates?  Who takes an average LF/DH that can't play defense and a slow slap hitter who can barely play 2B?

The Games
I'm probably going to end up missing every game heading into the All-Star break.  Man, it's good to see this team kicking some serious tail.  I was checking in on the results this game in progress over my cell-phone.  Very enjoyable to see the team put the game away in late innings, especially on a Roy Halliday start (ie a game we almost never win).

Speaking of which, the M's have gone 9-1 since Jeff Weaver's miracle performance.

It'll suck when Broussard is out of the lineup
I know all of his hits were singles tonight but he's one of our best hitters right now.

So I got sidetracked
playing the bar games machine at the bar and go figure the Mariners rang up 7 runs in the interim.  I did the same thing yesterday and they pushed ahead.  Good luck?

13-4
I'm beginning to wonder if my idea to leave Seattle in order to help the Mariners win games might not be such a great idea, since they can't seem to lose when I go to Safeco.

Anyway, look who Etowncoug and Bretticus and I found after the game :)

I think it depends on Carlos Tri,Matt Tui, and
Mangini. Because they're the only decent-good(or in Tri's case great) 3B's have in the system. And that's if they stick at 3B and they're ready by the end of 09. Because if we don't have any suitable replacements, then he should be resigned.

I don't really think they expected him to be '04
Beltre. He hasn't exactly been horrible, bringing both power and amazing defense from 3rd base, something we haven't had since, well, I don't remember.
No, sir, they're saying Boo-vasi.

by Mariner John on Jul 1, 2007 1:14 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'd say he's arguably the greatest defensive
third basemen we've ever had. And Edgar is about the only one who could match his power(when he played 3B).

by Goose on Jul 1, 2007 1:16 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think they
expected him to hit around .280 or .290 with 25-35 homeruns. He's been close on the homers but his BA hasn't been great.

Park-adjusted it'd probably be close to there

by Mariner John on Jul 1, 2007 1:22 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Well...
They paid him like '04 Beltre.  And who knows they could resign him for less or he'll pull another monster contract year and some other team will shell out mega dough.

by SethGrandpa on Jul 1, 2007 1:20 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he won't be asking for a
raise. One of the reasons he was given that much money was because he was only 26 when he was signed. He's 28 now and will be 30 when his contract expires.

'04 Beltre
was likely worth more than 13 mill a year. If they were basing it only on 2004, he'd probably have gotten a Carlos Lee-ish deal.
No, sir, they're saying Boo-vasi.

by Mariner John on Jul 1, 2007 1:23 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have a gut feeling
that Beltre will stay in Seattle.  I usually dont have a very good feeling when it comes to the Mariners and free agents, but I think Beltre likes Seattle.  There might be a little biased in my feeling though, we'll see.

It would take alot for me to stop cheering for the M's.  If they traded Belte, I think there would be some serious backlash.  Hopefully he'll retire a Mariner, I can only hope...

by RED29 on Jul 1, 2007 9:23 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed.
I think Beltre LOVES Seattle, and it's a good fit for him, personally.  He's a fantastic guy in the clubhouse, from what I've heard, and even though his bat probably suffers a little bit in Safeco, he's still holding his own.

I'd love to keep Beltre around.  You're not the only Beltre fan, just the loudest and most visible.  But I've defended him plenty myself ;-)

He's arguably going the best 3B the M's have had.
Edgar wasn't as good defensively and had a short tenure there, and Jimmy Presley is your other candidate, and he sucked after about 2 years.

Heh, from The Office:

Michael: We are going to choose team names. Dwight!
Dwight: We will be called Gryffindor!
Jim Halpert: Really? Not Slytherin?
Dwight: Slytherin are the bad guys, Jim.
Jim: I know. Okay, we will be Voldemort.
Dwight: He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named? I wouldn't do that.
Jim: [starts chant, everyone joins in] Voldemort! Voldemort! Voldemort! Voldemort! Voldemort!
Dwight: Okay, seriously, you really shouldn't be saying that.

Did anyone catch this quote?
"They do know that I'm crazy, and I let them know that if they get out over the plate, then they're going to wear it," Batista said. "A couple of the guys, they thought I was playing until they saw the balls that almost caught their jersey."

Credit where Credit is due:Willie Ballgame
.385/.395/.519/.915 for the month of June.

Fantastic.

Is this Willie's career year? I think so. His .719 OPS is 81 points higher than his previous career best.
