Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

6/8: Open Game Thread

First Pitch: 7:05pm PDT

Ichiro CF Giles 2B Lopez 2B Sledge LF Guillen RF Gonzalez 1B Ibanez LF Bard C Sexson 1B Cammy CF Johjima C Branyan 3B Beltre 3B Greene SS Betancourt SS Bocachica! RF Batista P Germano P ---------- ----------

Beluga Tits (6-4, 5.43)     Germano (4-0, 1.74)

In 62 innings this year spent between the real minors (PCL) and the glorified minors (NL), Germano has fanned 30 batters, walked just five, allowed three homers, and induced groundballs on 57% of balls in play. The only thing keeping him from being the pitching version of Yuniesky Betancourt is that the pitching version of Yuniesky Betancourt would lead the league in balls inadvertently thrown into the dugout.

I'll be in attendance, which means the M's will lose, because nothing good ever happens to me in the world of sports, and you guys are boned for choosing the same team to root for. Accept it now, because the only thing worse than living the life of the damned is not knowing that you live the life of the damned.

uh, LET'S GO MARINERS!!

He's now tied for 7th MLB lead in HR's.

I hope he hits 3 the first day of the Mariner/Reds series, and I hope they're all off of Julio Mateo.

Why on earth
would you want to see him hit three homers against the M's? I love Griffey and can't wait to see him back, but I don't want him hurting the M's chances of winning.

I admit that I wouldn't mind seeing him hit a solo shot if the M's are up by a comfortable amount, though.

by Coach Owens on Jun 8, 2007 7:53 PM PDT reply actions

Batista's pretty good Coach.
It's not like he's Horacio or Weaver.  On a good team, he's a perfectly acceptable #4 starter, and on a bad team, he's a passable #3.

Also, Bunting the runner over does not help your team a lot, but I see where you're going with this, since it is the pitcher and all.  But you're more likely to score with a runner on first and no outs than a runner on second and one out.

by BrettJMiller on Jun 8, 2007 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions

in general, but yeah,
the pitcher makes it a special circumstance in terms of the probability.  because you're more likely to score with a runner on second and one out than a runner on first and one out :)

by Deanna on Jun 8, 2007 7:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah, exactly.
That's why I made mention of the pitcher.  I was referring more to Coach's general statement about bunting helping, just in case he wasn't just talking about it being a situation with the pitcher.  But yeah, I agree with ya.

At the least the best hitter, despite his "disapointing" start of only hitting around .298/.390/.520 or so.  Plus he can play third or left in a pinch.

I can't think of a better position player to build around, except for MAYBE Miguel Cabrera.

I saw that on Gameday
But thought it was some kind of typo or something.

Who got hurt?

Felix, you magnificent bastard.

I'm not sure of the guy's name but it was the...
gaints catcher. He got hurt on a hard slide/collition at home plate.

Evidently.
It's not a good day to be a SF catcher:

SAN FRANCISCO CATCHER BENGIE MOLINA LEFT THE GAME IN THE TOP OF THE FIFTH INNING DUE TO AN APPARENT LEFT ARM INJURY.

SAN FRANCISCO CATCHER ELIEZER ALFONZO LEFT THE GAME IN THE TOP OF THE 10TH INNING DUE TO AN APPARENT LEFT LEG INJURY.

Man, and I thought Spinal Tap's drummers had it bad...

Okay, this sig thing is sorta working: LEARN HOW TO THROW, YUUUUUUNIIIIIIIII!!!!

2-run single by Stewart.
Damn, how long has it been since the standings have changed between us, Oakland and Anaheim? Good thing we won today.
Felix, you magnificent bastard.

Teixeira got hurt today too.
Not good if the Rangers really were looking to deal him.
Felix, you magnificent bastard.
