Courage
Courage was at the game, just not at his post.  I caught a sighting of him in the Bull-Pen Pub before the game.  He was sporting the DR Jersey and had some killer over the head sun glasses.  Unfortunately, I didn't go say "hi" ... weak, I know.

by AIS on Jun 3, 2007 7:55 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah, I knew he was there.
Camera never found him, though.

By the way, the obscured word on the sign - in case you couldn't already guess - is "was".

Out of curosity
does anyone know who is holding the sign?

by Babar @ Lookout Landing on Jun 3, 2007 8:54 PM PDT reply actions

coincidence, I think NOT!!!
Ill tell ya, I think the Rangers tried to take me out of the game today.  Not only is Beltre on the shelf for what looks to be a couple more games, but on top of that they sat Lofton for the last game of the series.  Mr. Lofton was gonna get an earful from me at the beer garden.  My inner ego would like to think that its cause of me but Im sure its one of those things where they dont play him day games after a night game.  After all the guy is going to be 87 next month.

you need an "I love Matt Kata" sign
for the next time Texas comes to town.

The man with the sign...
Is a co-worker of mine who is a huge all around sports fan.  The sign was great, I headed down before the game to say hello to him and his family and his kid showed me the sign.  Awesome stuff!!!  If you are reading this, thanks Jim, you rule!

Id be lying if I said
it wasnt cool.  Im just glad that there are some people who DO appriciate it.  I like to go to the games and have fun.  A bad day at the ballpark is better than a good day at work.  As soon as Beltre is back, it'll be even better.

I'm also excited by the fact
that somebody outside the blogosphere is still a fan of the Beltre signing. Thats a rare thing these days.

I used be Captain Plastic a few nights each month and I can tell you that there is nothing more fun than entraining a large group of people by poking fun at yourself. It's a shame that most people at Safeco these days rather do the wave or live or die by the scoreboard than appreciate you.

"Hey, look the strange animated hands are
telling us to clap. Let's do it!"

I have gone so far as to refuse to clap when the scoreboard prompts me to.

No, sir, they're saying Boo-vasi.

I HATE THE WAVE
If there was EVER one thing that I wish I had the power to uninvent...it would be the wave.  Well that and those stupid air hand dryers that are in bathrooms, those things never work.
Its like the luck of the Irish, only Im not Irish so you figure it out.

by RED29 on Jun 3, 2007 11:04 PM PDT reply actions

At the last LL night we had, they did the wave
during the game, and when it came over into our section, we all stood up and starting shouting and booing at people.

You'll find no fans of the wave here. In fact, there's a guy by the name of Conor Glassey who has a blog called Stop the Wave.

I think I saw the worst wave since 2003
at today's game.  It was pretty full up.  Little league day sucks.  I honestly believe baseball should bad the wave, and if anyone is caught doing it they have to be publically executed.

As for hand dryers, they're pretty dumb...I like the environment and all, but when it comes to the dryness of my hands, I say fuck the environment, give me a paper towel.

by BrettJMiller on Jun 3, 2007 11:49 PM PDT up reply actions

What's the big deal?
I'm indifferent to the wave. If people want to do it, so what?

Boredom
It's often seen as an indicator of boredom - fans are not taken by the sport and instead find their own forms of entertainment.

Mexican Waves
They are a thing of pure evil.

I went to the new Wembley Stadium on Friday night to see England vs Brazil (soccer) and they were kicking off there too. Daft guy sat next to me was creaming himself "wahey - here comes the wave!"... Aaaaargh!

The best way to stop them is to distract everyone in your proximity, usually by starting off some alternate chant or something and it dies by the time it gets to you.

If Red doesn't have his own Lookout Landing Wiki section by now, someone needs to be kicked.

Oh and Goose
you mentioned you never heard the double call before. You should go back and watch that entire inning.

Good Golly Miss Molly
I can't even watch that without rocking serious goosebumps and getting choked up.  I remember being a 5th grader in Richmond, VA and doing the splits in my living room at, what was sure to be, an ungodly hour for an 11 year-old.

Watching that nearly gets me crying
And I hadn't even heard of the Seattle Mariners in 1995.

I've hard the call. But at one point they showed
the double without Dave's call and with just the crowd reaction. That's what I've never heard before. Just the crowd reaction.
