So, the best pitcher in baseball is on a 70-80 pitch count tonight, but against the second most over-aggressive lineup in the AL (we're number one! we're number one!), I figure that'll be good for ten or eleven innings. Happy Felix day?
LET'S GO MARINERS!!

A win tonight
We'd finally win 2 in a row again.
We'd close the gap with Anaheim significantly.
We'd set the tenor of the series.
We'd get to see Felix dominate again (the awful taste of his last start still lingers!)
We'd beat one of Anaheim's studs (maybe he's tired after tossing a shut out in CLE.)
I fail at Felix day
Living in Los Angeles I should always take the chance to taunt Angels fans and yet here I missed one.
I guess there is always tomorrow, right?

Oh and I have an exam tomorrow so definitely no 430 wakeup for me. Need my rest. In fact I'm not leaving my computer on like I usually do so I won't be tempted to check the game if I wake up in the middle of the night.
I second that!

Oi!
What shows did you see when you were in town? Long Winters or Ted Leo?
Shows...
... so hung out in Kent quite a bit, and I saw two shows in Chicago en route anyway.
Might be popping out again at the end of July to see Rufus Wainwright at the Moore if I can be clever with my timings...
I wrote a little diary of my two games at Safeco, but never posted it at the risk of stealing EM's thunder. Will have to get around to doing that soon enough.

I believe Jeff said
I am so apprehensive
Felix being Felix.
First ballgame I get to attend by myself in a long time. I love my family, and especially taking my son to a ballgame, damn straight. But I also like having a little bit of freedom to not have to be responsible for someone else for a change.
Happy Felix Day!!!
I plan to be one my superstitious best even if it may frighten people around me. Felix is far more important than my silly reputation.
Every Felix start I've attended
That changes tonight. The Mariners are going to RUIN the angels.
Hmm
vs.
the lineup that couldn't hit Matt Freakin' DeSalvo
I'd say the first team to 3 runs wins.

Escobar throws strikes
I was at the game against DeSalvo, and for the first four innings I didn't see him throw a strike. Everything we chased or hit was generally crap, and he was throwing up 2-0 counts reguarly.

Val Pascucci is playing baseball again?
by BrettJMiller on May 15, 2007 1:01 PM PDT up reply actions
Funny thing
A further look shows he spent the last two years coming off the bench for NPB's Chiba Lotte Marines. The second season did not go as well as the first.
2006 Highlights: Spent second-straight season with the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan... batted .222 in 69 games with Chiba Lotte, hitting 13 home runs and driving in 32 runs.
Career Highlights:
2005: Played in 33 games for the Chiba Lotte Marines in Japan... batted .284 with eight home runs and 20 runs driven in... compiled a .549 slugging percentage and a .392 on-base average.
While it looks like a comeback for old Val, who is seriously mashing right now... remember that he plays his home games in Aubuquerque, and he's hitting 177/284/435 on the road. He's the textbook all or nothing hitter.
I<3 Baseball Mogul
Heh
I saw him play in a few games in Japan. They had a funny cheer for him, mostly stemming from the fact that Japanese people can't pronounce "Val" or "Pascucci".

Felix has been told to use the slider sparingly and to focus on establishing both the four-seam and two-seam fastballs early in the count, even more than usual.

Why does it seem like I see
I was thinking more along the lines of starters.
But Sherrill is a great example of not "great" stuff, but very successful. Isn't he able to succeed due to a somewhat funky delivery though?
Washburn's stuff is pretty marginal.
Sherrill's delivery may have something to do with his success, but I think it all starts with his solid fastball command. Once he gets ahead, then that sweeping slurve becomes a major weapon.
